Finally got around to pulling the pan on the 96 3/5 hatch I bought a couple months ago. Got it for $200 not running & figured it'd make a good parts car if nothing else. Threw some plugs in it & off it went. After a minute I thought one of the lifters wasn't pumping up. I says to myself, "no problem I'll add some Seafoam to the oil & all will be right with the world. Got out of the cockpit & ambled around to the front for a better listen. Seems the noise was just a little south of the head, like in the pan. Shut it down & sulked off deciding I had plenty of other projects to work on instead. Figured since fall is coming [hard to believe after today] I needed to at least find out what was up. Dropped the pan & old #3 rod is a nice shade of coal black. Pulled the cap & the bearing had spun. Screwed up the crank big time. No in frame rebuild for this puppy. Rats!! Not a good day. |

I'd say if the tranny is good, it is still a good day since that is probably easy worth the $200. you paid for the car. |
