Hi Gang, I have been reading this forum since I got my 93 vert in July, and for obvious reasons (they are probably all Dead) I have seen no references to the 86-89 Chevy Sprint. I bought a four door new in 86 and ran it 150K really loved it. but I notice a lot of difference between that and my "new" vert. that car only weighed 1150# and the vert is ~1600 and the power and mileage stuff is way different. is all the XFI stuff basically what came on the sprints? mine got mileage around 45 all the time with a record of 60 MPG and that was NOT hypermiling I was on a long trip running 55-80 on expressways. The main differences if I remember correctly are that the Sprint was carb'd, and the tranny was similar/same as the xfi and 4 cyl. Metros, i.e. 3.79:1 final ratio, + the weight difference. There are a few threads around here about the sprint, there is also Wikipedia's article on the Cultus which is what all these cars were based on. |

there are a lot of differences between the 88-below chassis, and the 89-94 chassis. They redesigned the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, etc. The most major difference you have is that yours is convertible. To deal with the extra weight of the convertible chassis suzuki changed the final drive of the trans, making it rev higher. If it bothers you too much you can find a trans out of another geo, depending on what you want to go with you choose what final drive you would want, but it really is fine. both cars are assembled quite well. |

I found a real cheap complete 1.0 turbo from a sprint. It come with trans and harness, axles. Not sure what else. He pulled with the intention of putting it in a clean rust free metro. He couldn't find such a thing and sat in a corner for years. He wants $350 for it all. I'm not too familiar with the sprints but would it be a direct bolt in? How much work involved? |

A sprint weighs a lot more than 1150, that must be a typo, 1550 at least. Your 93 'vert weighs 1753. Verts will never get the same mileage as other Metros, they weigh more, have worse aerodynamics, and screaming gear ratios. There was a special model called the Sprint Metro that was, for all intents and purposes, an XFI. Had a special cam and taller gears for extreme mileage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Cultus |

A mark 1 car weighs 1600-1650 lbs. I have weighed several factory turbo cars at 1650 |

so I assume a sprint block has same bolt pattern as a g10. Is a sprint trans as strong as a metro trans or are they the same? I'm sure somebody has already swapped in a sprint drivetrain into a metro. Does anybody know any details? Is it a bolt in? Will the axles work and long enough? I found a complete turbo engine drivetrain cheap. Any advice? Thanks! |

I know that the really early transmissions. Were not as tough as the Metro units. The syncs in 1/2 were smaller. I don't have any info on the ratios though. |

Use your stock axles. The Sprint turbo trans is 4.10, and has the strongest diff. of all of them. The trans is otherwise the same internally. Advice? If it's cheap, buy it. |
