Nowadays, what is your favorite oil filter brand? I just changed my oil this morning and used a Wix filter (been using Fram Extra Guard up until now). Recommended? |

Ryan Wix is a good filter. I was told to stay away from Fram for some reason and can't remember why. Baldwin, Purolator pure one, K&N, Mobile 1 are all good. |

I've heard from a few people that Fram isn't the best filter, but I still don't know why. |

I'm using a Ford Motorcraft filter. Its much taller than the stock geo filter and still fits with the A/C compressor without touching it. If you don’t have A/C, then you can use a larger diameter filter. Johnny Mullet has the books to cross reference other filters. |

Really, what are the advantages to using a larger filter? I've never heard of that until I joined this forum. |

Just a tad bit more oil in the crankcase and more surface area to filter the oil. |

Doesn't seem like that much of an advantage -- unless I can get a cheaper filter. |

Unfortunately, no. But, the engineers at Milton-Bradley said they'll contact me tomorrow with a price quote... I told them I need the quote ASAP because life is short... Edited by Ryan, Oct 3 2010, 06:12 PM.

The larger filter allows you to have more oil in the system. This is especially nice if you have any leaks. I run Baldwin B2 on my non-AC setup. Wix is another good filter. Fram, Motorcraft, STP, Purolator, Pennsoil, and a shitload of other names have cardboard check valves and poor filtration. Wix and Baldwin use better paper elements and steel check valves. |

I use whatever happens to be on sale at the time. I have done this with all my cars...have never had any problem related to oil filters. This includes a Ford 302 engine I got with 134k miles, and junked at 410k miles, after the rest of the car wore out. |
