I have heard that Royal Purple filters are good. They had a factory tour on Horsepower TV. Just don't buy the oil unless you like paying double for KA KA oil as Mr Webb says. |

Ive been running Fram for as long as I can remember, but thats just b/c its convenient with that grip pad. I might go ahead and try a wix in an oil change or 2. I bought a few frams at once b/c orilleys was having a great sale. Ive got one more to use. When it says "extended millage" or its made for cars that have a lot of miles on them, does it actually do anything different or is this just another scam to get an extra 3 bucks from gullible guys like me? |

I think the fram Tough Guard and the High Mileage filters are a bunch of hype. I always bought the regular Extra Guard. I found the Wix online for about five dollars a filter, so that's about $1.25 more than the Fram I buy at the store. I will miss the "grip" pad on the Fram, so I may just use some duct tape to substitute when taking the Wix off. |

Baldwin or Wix. Fram like other products @ wALLY world are cheapened up imo. This is based also on my brother (MTD) doing some business with them. |

The Wix on RockAuto are $4.37 and they're $5.96 on autoparts123.com. So, not too bad. Can get 13 Wix at RockAuto with $7.58 shipping for only $64! Not bad. |

I don't have a preference on oil filters but maybe that's because they're all the same to me. The one that's on my car right now is a NAPA oil filter.

On Wix and Baldwin being the best quailty filters. Here is a good Oil Filter Comparison: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html#mc-fl1a Also, Purolator does NOT use the shitty cardboard end caps like Fram uses. They are pretty decent cheap filter, the only reason I know this is because I was researching who makes the Motorcraft Filters for my Focus.....Purolator. |

I like what he has to say but the bottom line is: This page was written and is maintained by Russ W. Knize and was last updated 06/20/00. Comments? Questions? Email So that was 10 years ago. I wish it were updated. I gather it being a .edu that (I hope) Russ graduated?

Didn't see that...... Well since the economy was good and strong in 2000, I can only assume that everything has gotten worse due to cost cutting. Bottom Line: We are all screwed

Mike updated his study in 2005; www.corolland.com/oil-filters"If I had to pick 5 out of the 10 as being the best, I would pick the Purolator PureOne, K&N, Toyota, Wix, and Purolator PremiumPlus as this group. Their prices start at $3.49 and go up to $9.94." BUT WAIT! Here are pages and pages of videos of Oil filter Reviews and a Comparison Shopping For Oil Filter... http://oil.filter.product.info/ You have got to go there and see the latest (tasteless) Fram Oil Filter Review

The "extended mileage" filters are designed for longer oil change intervals. They'll keep filtering for more miles. Oil companies (and it used to be, manufacturers) say you should change your oil at 3,000 miles, so standard oil filters are designed to last that long. Our cars have a 7,500 oil change recommendation and newer cars are much longer than that. It's a good idea to either use a filter designed to go longer, or change the filter halfway through. |
