So I am heading to central PA this afternoon to fix my dad's 96 Buick with a blown intake gasket and/or plenum. We get Christine ready for the trip, but a friend wanted me to look at her van. I tried jump starting her van and this ended up toasting my alternator I get Christine in the garage so I can rob the alternator from Blue Jay since that car is disabled due to frame rot issues. I start removing the alternator and found out why the heat sucked in the car the previous day. The water pump is leaking Now it looks like Molly (Black 92 XFi) will be going on her very first road trip since I got her I believe there is a reason this happened. The alt swap would have been simple, but for some reason Christine does not want to go on this trip, but Molly is can't wait

i think theres an updated plenum for that. they are plastic and are prone to cracking. when i jump a car... contrary to popular belief. i turn off the car that im jumping from just to insure that it doesnt fry the ecu or in this case alternator. then someone might say "well what if you cant get your car started when your done jumping the other car?" i tell them that if the battery cant handle it that way then you have no business jumping another vehicle with it anyway. We left in the XFi at 2:00 and made it to Breezewood, Pa for a hotel. We left the hotel and headed to Bald Eagle, Pa to drop off a block to a member who needed one and just got back here to the hotel. The free WiFi sucks, so I'm on another connection with the laptop. The Xfi did great! Ran 60-65 mph and pulled the mountains quite well. The Cherry bomb sounds nice at highway speeds and the car rode surprisingly smooth and stable at these speeds. The car got a lot of attention at a couple stops and got a lot of looks on the freeway

Buicks have a weakness in the upper intake manifold @ the EGR valve... usually melts through the coolant jacket into the intake and the lower intake gasket just comes apart...done way too many of them...just something to look for...hope you have good trip.. |

Hubcaps from a 1995-1997 Geo Metro. They actually came off member pacopperhead's car when he replaced his with refabbed ones from ineedahubcap.com |
