Yesterday I was modifying one of my stratocasters to look like my Mazdaspeed Miata (metallic orange and black paint scheme). I didn't want any bugs, dust, etc getting on my wet paint between coats so I lifted up my hatchback, put the pickguard on some junk that was sitting in my parts car and sprayed it. Between coats I would drop the hatch and let it dry (nice and hot in there too).

Not a finished product but close enough for you to see what it will look like. The guitar/car are a much closer match than what the pictures indicate:

Good one, rmcelwee! :thumb

If the sun comes out I'll finish foaming my Geo's uni-body; using the sun's heat to get the car up to 60o for the foam, I'll post pictures.

I used my Dirty White Van as a spray booth for the Geo's fenders. :D

Someone sprayed foam in the rocker panels of my vert. I always thought it would promote rust. Tell me about your foam project.

Well, we will see. My Geo is pretty much rust free. Right now it sits in a garage and my van is outside. I added some foam to my van so if it collects a lot of water and begins to rust , we will know. Thwn I can souse it with WD-40, eh. :-/

This stuff is really sticky. Their FAQ says "Is Touch 'n Foam waterproof? Touch 'n Foam insulating sealants are water-resistant and form an airtight seal when applied properly. " www.touch-n-foam.com/ We used the same stuff in a two compound mix for flotation in kayaks in high school. This stuff comes with a reusable nozzle but this town has no replacement cans. :banghead :lol

I filled the bottom door rails, the door frame from the rail to the roof, the space under the rear window and some space around the gas tank. Also the space where the hatch latches to the frame, from side to side. Reason: I can't afford a rear tower brace or sway bars and my Catalytic converter is to low to fit a sway bar or under brace on. :smackface Plus my Geo has 4" of clearance from the cat. to the ground and it snows here. That makes lowering a bit impractical so i decided to do the closed cell Polyurethane Foam.

I'm hoping for a Federal Tax Credit for insulating my Geo. :lol

I'm sure the foam is waterproof and no water will exist inside the foam. My concern is that moisture will become trapped between the metal and the foam (leaving you with a nice car shaped piece of foam when everything else rusts away <G>).

I would think is you spray with rustoleum first and then foam it you should be ok and also make sure there is drainage so if water DOES get it that it does not just "sit" and rust away.

That is all reasonable.
Like I said, we will see. :dunno

I will seal any holes that water can get into and run down onto the foam. I can think of a few that the foam expanded out of and into which I pushed a fastener. My car has had no leaks except from the the roof scoop, in the beginning.
