99 metro smoke show

I picked up a 99 metro lsi auto 1.3 with 150k for 500 bucks. It started and runs great. The only two things about the car it was a mosquito fogger and the bearings on the ac compressor are gone. It smoked non stop. I have to give everyone props for all the great information on trouble shooting the car. I went through all the suggestions in all the previous posts when I searched. I started with the compression testing which turned out to be dry 175 to 185 across the board. With that I decided to just change out the valve seals. This was a first time for me on a piston motor. I can rebuild rotaries but never a piston motor. I got the seals all changed out and then the only problem I had was the proper valve adjustment. The valve lash was so bad after I tried to set it to the settings on the hood. I checked around I found team swift and the suggested a different setting off the cam. It worked like magic. Car is quite and no more smoke. I appreciate all the information everyone has posted. Thanks. Now I will be looking for an a/c compressor.
