I need a tach and i am cheap atm so i am planing on searching the werckers for a 3cyl cluster with tach. but my local pick and pull pulls the engines when they arrive so that will make it hard to tell. Is there anyway to tell by VIN if its a 3 or 4 cylinder? Any other sure signs its a 3 cyl? |

Oohhh that's difficult... I want to know if there's a way to tell too... My ONLY help would be if it's a 89-94 model, all of those Metros were 3 cylinders. |

Well, according to my Chilton manual the 8th digit in the VIN is going to be either an M (2bbl), 2 (EFI (turbo)), 5 (2bbl or EFI) or 6 (TFI (TB Injected)). Note: 2bbl is 2 barrel carburetor, EFI is Electronic Fuel Injected. If the 8th digit in the VIN is number; 9 (SOHC), 3 (DOHC) or 2 (SOHC) it is a 1.3(1300). All are 1.0 (1000cc), 61 Cubic inches, SOHC and Suzuki. The last 2bbl was in 1988. Edited by Bad Bent, Oct 16 2010, 01:36 AM.

as far as I know, the only 3cyl that comes with a tach (89-94) is the convertible, VIN will start with JG |

The verts did have the tach but the LSI models also had them in the 89-94 body style. Ken.... |

A 4 cyl cluster will work if it's modified .Of course it needs to be from the same vintage in order to fit or use a ton O ducttape GL .

91 Ragtop is right. Hardtop LSi's in the GEN II Metros (89-94) had tachs. All verts are LSi's. |

Anybody want/need to swap a 95 up 3 cylinder tach for my 95 up 4 cylinder one? OR, anybody up to doing a conversion via installing correct resistors for a fee? |

I edited the post to read;If the 8th digit in the VIN is number; 9 (SOHC), 3 (DOHC) or 2 (SOHC) it is a 1.3(1300). A little redundant but it reads better, eh. |

I got my tach from a 3cyl auto 4door. Didn't pay attention to whether or not it was LSI. |
