My 99 sedan has no low beams. I checked the fuse box for a burned connector according to Jonny Mullets post and it is ok. The DRL has never worked since I've owned it. I can hear the relay click when I switch the low beams on. This makes me think the light switch is working. It must be a wire between the relay and the headlights. |

Check the connection under the drivers side dash, I would bet the connection for your low beams is burnt up, It's a brown wire if I remember right, if it is burnt up in the connection it self, just cut the wire and solder the two ends together. |

Pull the connector from the DRL module. I just repaired the exact same issue on a 99. Looked for burnt connectors, zilch. Checked the relay under the hood, good. traced wiring with the schematic, went to DRL to check wires. Lights came on. Plug in DRL. Lights go off. We left the DRL unplugged. He was pulling up the brake handle to canael them anyway. |

Posted: Today, 12:57 AM Forum Guides/How to View full topicI just fixed mine. If your tired of driving around with no low beams and having to use the DRL's. There an inexpensive fix for it. However you won't have DRL's anymore. Just good old fashion manual high/low beams. Mine is a 97 Metro LSI 1.3 auto so the color codes might not be the same. I'm kinda big, so it was easier to take the drivers seat out. Then just crawl up under the dash area by the steering colume. My DRL module was an aluminum box so I don't know if others are plastic. It should have a connector with 10 wires going into it. A way to make sure that it's the right one is to unplug it. Your DRL's should stop working. Then locate the red/w white wire. It should be the biggest in group. According to wiring diagram submitted by Johnnymullet it is #2. Then locate the red/w green wire. It should be #1 in the diagram. Mine looked more like red/w black instead of green stripe. So then have somebody look at the headlights, turn on the switch to low beam then with a small wire or paperclip stick one side in the red/w white and then quickly tap the red/w green terminal. The low beam should blink when touched. When everything is for sure cut the red/w and red/green and wirenut or solder and heatshrink the two wires together. Tape up the connector. Through away the module and enjoy the simpleness. ( Be advised. This repair is in the event that your car doesn't have the common melted connector in the fuse box. ) |

My 99 had the same problem. And it was also tied into the parking brake too. I had a real simple fix. I removed all of it and turned it into a LSR. LOL On a serious note. What is DRL's??? Sorry I have not kept up with wiring over the years. I am better with gears. |

The DRL module on a 1995-1997 is supposedly under the driver's side of the dash, but in 1998 they moved it. I have not found the one on my 98 yet but disabled them through the parking brake. |

Thank you for this forum! I had high beams only. I now have highs and lows, and no DRL, thanks to the info from this page. I have to add one thing that was specific to my situation. I unplugged the DRL wire harness from the aluminum box and nothing happened. Then I noticed a different wire harness (white harness) that had burn marks. There is a red wire with white stripe. I relayed this wire after I unplugged the DRL harness and my low beams came on. 99 chevy metro, 5 speed. 40 mpg ;-) Edited by cad_il, Dec 14 2014, 05:24 PM.
