So I was at pick and pull today in Reno and every freakin geo/chevy metro/ suzuki swift I went to had the transaxle taken from it! All the Timing gears and ERGs taken as well. But Luckily a 1994 geo metro just got in less then a week ago and still had the trans. It shifted smooth into every gear and is more solid then mine. It doesnt look like it is leaking but had a bit of oil because it looked as if the o-ring in the distributor went bad and leaked out over a good time. Also it has the different final drive which is 4.105 instead of the lower gearing one that I have now. I will measure the increase in mileage on my freeway trips. If anything I expect it to be 2-3 mpg gain. One because my transaxle is grinding and probably decreasing mileage a tad and the different gearing will lessen my rpms 200-300 on the freeway. Next weekend I shall find out. The transaxle I pulled only has 108k compared to my current 191k :rocker and still going strong with 48 mpg freeway 42 city! Oh and the underdrive pulley and lighter flywheel showed results in my last tank with almost a 2 mpg increase from my usual 44 to 46 mpg freeway/city. I am happy.

Nicely done! :thumb
Flywheel, underdrive pulley, tranny, and eventually the cam (according to the fine print at the bottom)
Tell us how the swap goes and what increase in mpg you see.
And a belated welcome to the forum, Triton. :)

Excellent choice and a reasonable expectation. Putting the XFI trans in a newer car (with the 13" tires and extra weight) is a pretty big step. Works for some folks, but I suspect the average person wouldn't like it.

Triton, I just put a 4.10 in my 95. I really like it so far. I'm still getting the feel of the new trans so I haven't noticed yet an increase in mpgs. I'm sure it will come around on the next tank. :cheers

just an fyi thats not an xfi tranny (xfi is 3.79 not 4.10) I assume he is going from 4.39 to 4.10 with this swap.

Yes I am going with the 4.1 . I was thinking about the 3.789 but I think that might be to much of a step for me. I dont have any pictures of the new trans, but I will get a picture when I clean it up and put it in. But However I have this picture from a costco run. People were walking buy and laughing when they saw me loading it.

thats when you look at them dead serious. Point to your car and say 50 miles per gallon next to nothing to maintain.

Point at them and say how about you?

Then walk away laughing. BOY does it steam them up :-)

Well, if I saw someone with a little car loading it down with stuff from costco I would have nice chuckle. I am just happy I am installing a new timing gear and trans this weekend!

Had that same conversation with a co-worker who just bought a very large, very shiny, very expensive crewcab pickup.

Him - "Why do you drive that girly car"
Me - "It takes me back and forth to work and does it very well"
Him - "Yah, but aren't you embarassed to be seen in it"
Me - "Not at all, as a matter of fact I talk to people all the time who rather like the way it looks. And I laugh all the way to the bank."
Him - "I wouldn't be caught dead in that thing. Why don't you drive a real mans' vehicle?"
Me - "Are you using your "real man's" vehicle to haul large loads or tow trailers?
Him - "No."
Me - "So you are just driving back and forth to work and running some errands?"
Him - "Yes"
Me - " Let's compare. How much is your truck payment?"
Him - "$450 a month"
Me - "This car is paid for, 0 payment. How much is your insurance?"
Him - "$150 a month"
Me - "Insurance costs me about $25 a month. How much do you spend on fuel each month?"
Him - "$400 a month in fuel"
Me - "I spend about $80 a month in fuel and I live more than twice as far from work as you do."
Him - "So?"
Me - "So the point is that we are doing the same job (getting to work); you do it for $1,000 and I do it for $105. That is why I drive this car."
Him - "Yah, but why don't you drive a real man's vehicle?"
Me - "<Sigh>

Please just call me; "Schultz"

A "Real" man doesn't need a big vehicle to compensate for his tiny 'manhood'.

I gave serious thought to pointing that out but came to the conclusion that it would be totally lost on the listener...
