Fastest Hampster EVER

Well, it just goes to show the old dogs know what they are talking about. Mwebb gets all the credit for fixing my 98 town and country. He didn't even know it wasn't working. Any way,, thanks Mwebb.

Took the T&C on a trip to the local Golden Corral restaurant last night. It worked fine. This morning I jumped in it for the drive to church. No go. I would turn the key and it would start for a couple of seconds then quit. I listened for the fuel pump to run but it stayed on for only one second. Just enough time for the engine to start and then die.

My first thought was the fuel pump was going south. After church I jumped in and tried to start it. It would not even crank. Nothing. Catastrophic failure of the ignition system, I thought. So I looked in the Chiltons for probable causes of the starter not working. It said bad starter, fuses, wiring, battery, or ignition switch. Crud, more expense on this van is not what I need. Well the axiom test, do not guess, came to mind and I started testing fuses. They were all good. Next on the list was relays, I didn't have any spares so I swapped one for another. No go. I finally said screw it and took the starter and battery to autozone for TESTING. They were OK so I bought some new relays, thinking since the A/C blower relay in the vehicle was replaced a couple of weeks ago, this might be the problem. ( I did do a continuity test on the fuel pump relay and I decided it was good, thus the reason for swapping fuses.) So I got home, installed the starter, replaced two relays, put the key in the ignition, and it STARTED.

This was a relief because of the prices for the parts I thought I would have to replace, Fuel pump-$180, Starter-$70, Ignition switch-WAY TOO MUCH, Battery-$100.

Just remember what mwebb says TEST, DO NOT GUESS. Great words to live by.

Thanks, Mwebb.
