He/she don't have a clue, IMHO.

actually that might not be too bad a deal depending on how hard it is to change a head gasket in such a car.

It sounds like he just wants to get a cheaper car in the same "size class" as his car. not a bad request actually. There are many people who would not put up with a geo metro and its space/ride/ammenities.

WE are the unusual ones here remember :-)

if anyone is close and has a junker (to you) laying around might want to offer him. maybe he will bite. if the head gasket is an easy fix you might be able to sell that 99 buick for enough cash to buy 2 or 3 more metro's :-)

Think positive :-)

Nerys think positive???? how about think realistic. trading a good running car for one that has 200k and its getting water in the oil. That could be a cracked or warped head. Then it opens up a whole can of worms. Then even if you do get it fixed you are still selling gm v6 with 200k.....not gonna get that much for it.
also in my area gas is starting to rise.....so is the value of my metro :cheers

its all relative. thats why I added the proviso of HOW HARD is a head gasket? he did say its custom (you would have to go look and see how custom off course)

I got a 96 Lincoln towncar for my pop for $900. the intake manifold was bad. that "whole thing" at the top of the engine (bad design plastic) Went the the local pick and pull and ripped one apart. 1 hour later and $25 had the part.

Went to the guy gave him $900 and in 1 hour had the car running. Had to run to parts store to replace 2 brake lines and we drove it home.

based on our talks with the guy and his other cars and toys I believed him when he said he did not run it hot and the leak was slow (he tried to fix it with jbweld) My gut said he was honest and we already knew the engines on these are pretty easy to fix.

it was as teal. pop already has 25k plus on the car since we gave it to him for christmas last year.

It needed a lot of other work too off course but all nitpick TLC stuff the hard core kill the deal stuff was good once we replaced the brake lines and the intake manifold.

sometimes you can get a decent deal. IF he wanted too (he never would he LOVES the car) he could sell that car for well over $4k+ now if he wanted too.

this buick COULD be something like that. I am just saying think positive.

My brother says to me you would take a metro over a Lamborghini? I said no. I would take the Lamborghini sell it and buy a fleet of metro's and a house :-)

well off course you would not trade you DD for an undrivable. but if you have a few cars lying around one you don't need not worth much a lot less than even a busted 99 buick. Who knows :-)

Water in the oil for any length of time is super bad news for the bearings. Can wipe them out quick on some cars, then knock city. Might consider a swap if I had a beater that I had maybe $150 in & the buick had maybe 125k or less miles on it. Nerys, you actually make a good point with trading your labor for something that may sell for more down the road. However, with it also needing 3 window motors & body work too, I wouldn't touch this trade with a 10 foot pole.

I was just kind of curious as to what he would not trade a Geo Metro for. Not my style, Buick is more a so-so luxury car, IMHO.

This one is for sale for $5000 at usedcars.kbb.com. At 200K/10 years, 20K a year. 55 miles/day, seems like hard driving to moi. :-/

I think the Century is boring. The Metro is much more exciting and unique.

This guy will (hopefully) look at the "big picture" in the future. The Metro will pay for itself. ;)

Gas is at $2.90 a gallon here. :O
