I'd check all electrical connections before jumping right to a replacement, but that's an incredible price on Denso sensors. To have them both new for under $100 is probably worth it just because of mileage. Start spraying them with Kroil now, they can be quite fond of the place where they have been. EGR valve doesn't normally need replacement, the passages that lead to and from it get clogged up with soot. |

The head was replaced 40k miles ago. EGR passages were cleaned then. Don't know how long it takes to clog. |

Denso sensors at AutoZone are $62 and $89. Was going to go there because I have $20 off but I'll just get them on rockauto and save the discount for something else. Could the o2 sensor cause a very low idle on cold starts? Been having that problem for a long time now but it's intermittent. I cleaned all the grounds from the ground threads, replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, every vacuum hose (found a gaping melted hole on the hose from intake manifold to EGR tee and thought that was the problem but I guess not), replaced my efe heater when the old one began blowing fuses and new felpro gaskets. I really hope the o2 sensor is the cause but I'm skeptical because it's only throwing a code for the 2nd sensor which just tells if the cat is bad or not, right? No control over fuel from what I've been told. |

I actually just had another idea. Glen sold me the freshly rebuilt head and ever since I've had it on my car it has a loud valve tick on cold starts that goes away after you drive it for a minute or two. Could that be the cause of the shifty idle? This morning it was probably 45-50 F outside and I started up the car to warm it up and it was shaking violently and idling at 460-560 rpms and wanted to die. I had to rev it twice to get it to smooth out. My car never once made a valve ticking noise with my original head. |
