If you poured an ounce of gas into the TB and it started then you would have a fuel issue. Might get a spray can of starter fluid to use instead. You know how to check for spark. Compression? Age and type of plug and plug gap? Check your fuses/grounds?

Unfortunately for me this malfunction may not be caused by a worn out sensor. There may be another cause. Why do I say that? I had this same wire mess in my distributor, took out a perfectly good distributor from my running spare GEO put it in the vehicle and it did it again after cranking it only twice. Found the wire wrapped around the NEW dizzy.

I cannot figure out exactly what is causing it so...

May get a mechanic to tell me.

I can't afford that but I need a car, I'm down to .. none.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

I will know within a week. I have a friend who's a certified mechanic. He has stated that sometimes the igniter goes bad causing this. In the upgrade emission cars the igniter is a separate part mounted somewhere on the firewall. In the standard emissions the igniter is hard wired into the ECM. You end up having to replace the ECM. I'll let you know what I find out when my friend gets over here Sunday.

i just got done adjusting the new pick up coil and it starts!!! its a but rough but it does. might need new button and cap. but for now it runs. took it out for a drive and i have to say it seems a hell of a lot more responsive than i ever saw. maybe the "issue" has been there since i got the car and i didnt know any better. my 1.3 has POWER now...

i think your first one died a natural death.
and when you whacked your secont distributor with a mallot to break it free from the engine, you changed the clearance of the pick up coil in your secont distributor....cuasing its imeadiate death.

the ignitor has nothing to do with the pick up coil/cam position sensor.......two completely different circuits.
cmp is a A/C voltage generator sending a low voltage signal to the ecm as a timing reference for both spark and fuel injection timing.
the ecm drives the ignitor which grounds out the coil for producing spark (thats the short non-descriptive answer)
