My 89 Go Fast driver; Taylor Swift GTi
Topic Started: Nov 4 2010, 07:57 PM (6,058 Views)
Good bye

I haven't decided what to do with the pile of 89 GTi parts on my car trailer. I can check the headlight switch and door panel if you would like. The engine was running when the car flew off the road and flipped several times so the head is probably good. I know the block is junk because the mounts have block still bolted to them from the front and back sides. I was going to use the the rear wiper, inside hatch release and rear disc brakes, the rest is pretty much up for grabs. I am on the opposite coast though.

:drool yes i would be VERRY intrestend in some of your 89 GTi parts...

yes its a shame you live on the oposite coast... i would be up in my truck, with a u-haul trailer and grab em all!!!!

ill PM you when later with a list of parts i need as of now. Flat rate boxes from USPS are the bomb... most all the parts im interested in will fit in them.

the rear wiper i dont need it works... all the other stuff you list works on the car so its all good.

if you where on this coast id say grab what you need im comming up this weekend and getting parts :D

well ive gotten a fair bit done, i havent gotten the engine pulled... still trieing to figgure out what the best way to pull this motor is.... if anyone has a sugestion im all ears.

im also waiting for this 190 amp alternator project that iplaybass is working on so i can make one for this car... im going to do a mild Audio build in this car... i have to do some measurements first.

im thinking some Bazooka tubes will be a nice project... i had 4 logs in my Isuzu pickup and that baby would SLAM with 2 dvc 10" tubes and 2 svc 10" tubes with 2 amps... im thinking of 4 DVC 10" tubes just to do it. but like i said im gonna have to do some measureing....

Remove the hood and pull the the engine and tranny at the same time is the most common suggestion.

ok ill update again... i have no pics... phone is dead (im terrible at keeping them damn things charged) the intake manifold is off, fuel rail is off along with the injectors.... everything is tagged... i also have the dizzy off, and more minor components off... i came to a halt because i needed to buy a metric Allen socket set, plus some metric Allen wrenches. plus the exhaust manifold is fighting me... well not the manifold itself but the heat shield is being a pain in the ass. im thinking of pulling the exhaust manifold along with the head and try it like that.... just in case i have to heat the bolts @ work

shes commin along just gotta get motivated enough to go out in that cold ass garage to do it.

the tires arent mounted on the new rims yet either.. i gotta clean out Sophia... ive cluttered her up too much

ok BIG update :D

as far as pics go ill start with the last update and move forward

i got everything off the head and exhaust manifold then pulled the head bolts out. got down to one and it strips out, so i get some advice and decide to start drilling the head of the head bolt off... yea that worked good... not what i ended up doing was trying to use a screw extractor that drilled into the bolt and for poops and grins i decided to see if i could get the allen socket in the hole and lo and behold it caught and i was able to extract the bolt... then i popped the head off... 2 days of drilling got me to where i am now :smackface :banghead :die it actualy looks good in the bottom end... no scaring to the block no nothing. so i filled the pistons with kerosene and im gonna let er sit for the night... ill check on the leak down in the morning... plus it'll clean the piston tops for me.

so i set the head down, looked it over then i went to pick it up and a pretty good chunk of the exhaust manifold broke off... that only means one thing... Header time.

but anyway heres some pitchures.

From the looks of your pistons I would guess that your rings are fine. Worn rings usually produce a clean ring a couple of millimeters wide around the top of the piston.
