Thanks to Ryan's Snow In Michigan post, I was reminded Gary needs a new pair of winter tires. Does anyone have experience with Kelly Explorer 175/70R13's? Supposedly the extra siping really helps with snow/ice/rain. Was planning on leaving on the two Douglas Xtra Trac A/W with decent tread, but rotating to rear. The worn pair of Toyo's currently on rear will be chucked. Other recommendations? Thanks much! |

Studded tires are legal up here...but even with that, many people are using Bridgestone studless tires called Blizzaks. I have a friend who claims his Blizzaks are better than his studded tires. Many of the 300+ vehicles at work have Blizzaks. I just checked to see if they make a 13 inch....and they do. |

Studded are legal here, too--about five months a year. Wouldn't know where to find them in 13" though. Are Blizzaks all season as well? I was very spoiled when Goodyear Wrangler Radials came on my Cherokee--all season and never had to chain up, even in Colorado snow! Too bad they don't bother with a 13". Thanks for the advice! |

Legally you could run them all year round. For better mpgs, most people switch to lighter tires in the summer. And, I have seen studded 12s up here. |

It's not a typo Not that I spend any time looking for tires, but I never heard of Blizzaks, Jittney. Check out www.tirerack.com/winter/techpage. "Over the years we haven’t found any All-Season tires that have matched the Blizzak's confidence-inspiring combination of deep snow, packed snow and ice traction.... When viewed through a microscope, the outer Blizzak Multicell compound resembles the appearance of Swiss cheese because it contains millions of uniformly distributed microscopic pores that are constantly being exposed as the tread surface wears..." |

I put a full set of 155/80-13 Firestone Winterforce snow tires on Speedy (The Weekend Rebuild car) which is my daily long distance driver. They made the car handle so much better on ice/snow that I bought another set for my second Metro. They also have plenty of sipes but I do not know if they have any micro-porosity mentioned above about the Blizzaks. Mounting and balancing tires is getting so expensive that anyone considering buying snow tires should buy a dedicated set of rims. That way you only have to pay the mounting and balancing costs once. |

i've got Pirelli Centurato's on mine. i live in central michigan and they seem to be an excellent all-season tire - great traction all around and i've never had issues on snow and ice. they have an 85,000mi warranty too, so they'll last for a long time. |

Too much good information! General question: 155/80/13 vs 175/70/13 -- which is better in winter? Thanks! |
