Ok, miraculously found a rear wiper in a boneyard. Pulled the trim off my back hatch and it seems there's no wiring for it, just a hole in the hatch and mounting ability..lol. I forgot to grab the switch too but can always put one in later. how do I get the wiring to the back hatch for this? Atre there any relays under the hood i need to wire into? Thanks! |

Congratulations! Check out Online Wiring Diagrams. I'm thinking power; maybe switched like the lighter or headlight circuit, ground, 15 amp in-line fuses and you're laughin'? If you want to wire into the actual fuse box check out Fuse Boxes for the location of #12 in post #11 by Jittney for the Front and Rear Wiper/Washer (15 Amp). |

here is the answer you really need just say no do not install the rear wiper . you do not need it , it just adds weight and drag . i have some mudflaps for your sledgehammer 2 times more usefull than a rear wiper on anything such a deal today only get yours today . be the first on your block .... |

If you want to do a factory install of the rear wiper be prepared to gut the car. You need to remove the carpet and the dash to get access to the appropriate wiring harnesses. You will also need a source of crimp terminals to interface the wiring that is already in place. I've done the install myself, but it was on my project car so everything was already removed from the interior. |

I've looked at the wiring diagram, thanks. Does this rear motor have 3 speeds? Anyone have a pic of the actual switch? And, without gutting my interior is there a way to run the necessary wires to the rear? |

I would not call it gutting but they will have to be routed through the dash, down the passenger frame, at their feet. (small panel, triangle), through the lower door frame (3-4 fasteners), the rear panels are screwed and pressed into place. This can be done w/o removing the rear seat. The issue is going to be the wiring going into the hatch. I have not removed one but they have been replaced. wires would go from about the rear tail lights up the frame to the hatch. At least on my '91. I do not know about the speeds or switch. |

One speed only. You need to remove the current hatch wiring harness entirely, split it open, add your new wires, threading them through the rubber bit between car and hatch, and then add the appropriate connectors on each end. The switch has two buttons. One momentary for wash and wipe, and one latching for continuous wipe. Using the stock switch will probably be more trouble than it's worth, because it would force you to use the dash harnesses that it connects to. |

Went back to the junkyard today, the wiper's from a 92 and doesn't seem to match the bolt pattern in my 91 LSi hatch, but that's improvisable. Also, the switch was gone, went with the 1/2 the dash some guy tore out.... So. figure I'm just gonna need to run the wiring back and up thru the hatch and figure out what kind of "off the shelf" switch will work. Thanks guys. |

to Mwebb.......the weight's minimal and judging by the way water lays on my back windshield, I'd say there's minimal airflow there, thus, no additional drag. lol |

I have a 96 Metro hatchback with no rear wiper. I found a loaded 97 Geo Metro with a rear wiper. After looking at the wiring under my dash, I decided not to install the wiper because the factory wiring was not there for the switch. The one thing I did not like about the junk car with with the wiper is that the rear glass was heavily scratched from years of using the wiper. If you want the wiper option, you will need to remove the following from the donor car... Complete hatch with wiper (the sprayer nozzle is built in to the top of the hatch. It looks like it might be difficult to install the nozzle in a car that did come with the factory option) Dash switch Wiring going from the dash to the wiper Plastic tubing that supplies the rear window nozzle with water (the water comes from the front of the car) Windshield fluid container (it contains two pumps, one for the front and one for the back) Note: My junkyard only wanted $40 for the entire rear hatch. Since the junk car was loaded, the rear hatch also had heated glass. |

Align the wiper arm with the bottom of the back window so that the wiper arm and the bottom of the window are parallel. Slide the hub of the rear wiper arm onto the Envoy's rear wiper motor stalk. The hub and stalk are splined, so make sure to line up the splines before pushing the hub down onto the stalk. Tighten the set screw in the side of the rear wiper arm hub with the screwdriver. Push the rear wiper arm hub trim cover down into place by hand. Lisza Bailey --------------- geo metro parts |
