My roommate came back into town and is bitching about my car being on his side of the garage. So I'll be putting the control arms back on tomorrow. They wont be in the way since the welding is needed on top, above the tie rods. If you want to stop by to look at it you're welcome to. I'm in SE Austin. I'll just have to put her back on jack stands when you stop by, so give me some notice so i can have it ready when you come. |

Are you sure it's safe to drill a hole in the ball joint? Won't I damage the ball joint? And do I need a tap or will the grease fitting just screw right into the drill bit hole? And how deep do I drill?

I met up with Metro3.0 this last saturday and we took care of the drivers side A-arm. It was a bit worse than I had expected, here's a shot of the hole we started with:![]() And a couple hours later it looked like this: ![]() Half way through the job I ran out of welding wire, I switched to 0.035 wire instead of the 030 I started with, the 035 was MUCH cleaner and easier to use. We used 16GA sheet metal I wrapped it around the inside after welding the sides and bottom then put a plate in along the inside of the arm, its very solid now. He's going to prime, paint and undercoat the new metal to keep water out, and being in texas now, it should be good for the foreseeable future. |

Mcmancuso did a great job on my Metro. The new sheet metal was naturally a bit higher than the original so before I primed and painted the A-arm, I filed down the area just a bit because the steering boot was rubbing against the patch slightly. Thanks mcmancuso for saving this Geo.
