Alright, so this is the start of my Convertible's Project Thread. I'll try and get some updates up soon. Here's a brief overview of the car and what i'd like to have done with it: 1992 Geo Metro LSi Convertible (automatic), Originally from Arkansas, but has seen 1 Iowa winter. I picked it up for 280 after seeing an ad on Craigslist that said to shoot them an offer. I offered 300, and they took it. but by the time i had got there, i had already spent 20, so i got it for 280. It was pretty dirty when i went to pick it up, but has new carpet and a new top on it. We got it home and started lookin' at it, we hooked up a battery and it wouldn't even turn over. We pulled the plugs and shined a light down into each cylinder to find that one piston was melted. (they had even claimed that they were driving it while knowing it was bone dry of oil) -I bought a 1.0 engine (core) back from i guy i had sold a parts car to (i got screwed) the engine has a rebuilt head, but needs a couple valves replaced. We took the Crankshaft and Block over to a machine shop to get it measured, and it doesn't need bored or anything. I'm going to spend a couple hundred on a new gasket set, bearing set, and ring set. What Brands Should I Stay Away From? Which Brands Are Good Brands For The Parts I Need? I'm POSSIBLY getting an XFi 5 speed with a running engine (rusted out completely) HOPEFULLY i will be able to convert the convertible to a 5 speed, with the help of all you guys. (I also plan to instal a fairly nice sound system in this car) Cosmetically, the car is in decent shape, it needs a passenger mirror and a center console (all the plastic is brittle from the sun) The seats are in good condition, but like all metro seats before 95, they're super uncomfortable. I'm hoping to get some seats from a newer model (like my 2000) and rob the seats from it. I'm also not liking the stock steering wheel. Its black and just kind of looks old and cheap. I want to find a steering wheel from a newer model and install in it. The front and rear bumpers have some scuffs that i'll touch up and all that. but yeah, This is where i'll post my updates and progress. Leave comments with suggestions or thoughts! thanks, guys. ![]() Edited by drummerdude, Nov 8 2010, 04:48 PM.

Nice clean Vert! Congratulations, looking forward to your updates. I have the same year Vert with the manual (it's under the snow on my signature) so can perhaps help out should you get stuck on the conversion. Good Luck. |

Wish you well with restoration. You have a nice looking convertible. Enjoy. I have a 92 auto and a 5spd and enjoy both. |
