Possible Title Problem: Looking for advice

Billy508, That is a scary scenario and one a friend of mine also went through. He ended up having to pay them the taxes on full book value to prevent trouble as he had moved to New York and could not easily get in contact with the previous owner. However, seeing as the 1992 Metro has a very low book value, I tend to think the $300 selling price I filled in on the title should not raise to many alarm bells with the state. If memory serves, book is around $250-$500 even thought they tend to trade more in the $700-1500 range. I am hoping this won't turn around to bite me in the ass. Even if it did, the taxes on a few hundred extra dollars wouldn't be too awful either.

Like I said I'm in florida. The owner had put down $250 on the title already. I paid a bit more than that, but its a little cheap car that has a lot of problems. DMV gave me no problems about the price. With my vehicle before, I told them it was a gift and they accepted it.

My friend Jim and I traded motorcycles a couple of times in the '80's. We sold them in pieces.
Bike is one piece, keys is another. B-)

I wanted to update this today as I got my resolution. They took my money and gave me the receipt for the title with the actual title to come in the mail within 7-14 days. To say the least I am relieved and will now start on the actual build of the car tomorrow afternoon.

sweet.
I thought I had a problem when I bought my metro. I went on an hr and half journey where I met the kid who owned the car. The kid was still in high school, a little immature but what high school kid isn't. anyways, the car was ok paid him the money. As he was getting ready to sign the title I was looking over his shoulder kind of pointing where to sign and print. I don't trust people when it comes to titles. They tend to F them up. Its really not that hard, just read and do what it says, nothing more, nothing less.
Anyways as I was pointing it out he was like "i got it, I've sold 3 cars in the last month." I just bit my tongue cuz I wanted the geo. He put his info on it and I look it over.......Sure enough the dumbass printed where it said signature and put his signature where it said print. I could have killed the kid. Pointed it out to the kid in kind of an angry tone.
At this time I was debating whether just to get my money back and leaving the geo, but instead I had him put 1 line through his names and re-sign and print his name. I told him if it doesn't work im coming back to get the money.
Next day I went to the dmv and the lady was cool as hell about it. So I started asking what would have screwed up the title. She didn't have an exact answer, but she implied that it just depends who is working at the dmv. lol
So the moral of my story is......people are dumbasses. lol. not really, but it is to just pay attention when signing any paper work.

No problem. I hate finding threads without resolution to them when I search the web, so I try not to do that whenever I post somewhere. As for the car's progress, I have added to the build thread and as of tonight I am about an hour away from pulling the engine.
