the problem with idle warming is that at 700rpm the cars simply don't generate that much heat. even with the therm closed and the less than half gallon of coolant will QUICKLY dissipate its heat to the engine and the engine to the cold rather quickly. now it DOES make heat faster than it gets rid of it but JUST BARELY thats why I "gave up" after 20 minutes the car would probably have taken another 20-30 minutes to get to full operating temps. once you start driving your using more RPM's and your applying LOAD to the engine. its going to generate a TON more heat more rapidly. |

guys,, when the engine is cold the thermostat is closed, so no water is flowing thru the radiator, so that can't be the cause of the engine being cold.. the thermostat only opens to regulate the engine block temperature, by getting cooled thru the radiator.. IMO the thermostat might not be closing all the way to let the engine warm up. am i wrong ? i too am having a heating issue, i can let the car warm up, drive it all around town and it is still luke warm heat, even tho the temp gauge is in the normal position. but if i stop somewhere and let the car idle, after 10 min the heat is suddenly roaring hot... what gives ? i have flushed the system, the water flows thru the heater core just fine. is there anything in the TB that might restrict the heat ? like a sort of thermostat ? or is it just channels that flow thru... the hoses feel hot on the TB.. i just can't figure out why it is luke warm, then can suddenly be hot as hell. i replaced the thermostat thinking the old one was bad, but it isn't.. i even tested it in almost boiling hot water til i saw it open.. i did the same with the new thermostat before installing it.. any other ideas ? BTW, i have a really nice electric heater that i have on a timer, it turns on 45 min before time to goto work. car is toasty warm, it also seems to help the engine warm up faster too, i guess because it sucks the warm air thru the heater core as the blower runs. but i need to figure something out. otherwise i'll just take the system apart and blast water thru the system til something gives.. |
