Cold day, a great wife, and money saved; Who could ask for anything else

Just knowing my wife is willing to help me fix her car brings warmth to a cold late fall day.

Today the temperature started out at 25*F and never warmed up. But my wife was outside with me all day helping to reinstall the intake plenum, spark plugs, alternator, radiator hoses and bits and pieces of of the engine on the '98 Town and Country. It is great knowing my wife takes an acitve interest in helping me fix things around the house, including this van she bought. I am one lucky guy. I wish every married man on this forum has the same luck as I have had. If your wife helps you out you need to thank the Man upstairs, if she has other talents then you need to thank Him for those talents.

You all have a great night.

p.s. We will finally get the van fixed tomorrow. A two week adventure will finally be coming to an end. The best part of it is my wife is learning how to repair vehicles. She is figuring out how things work and when it breaks, how much cheaper it is to do the work yourself. A little elbow grease saves a bunch of money.

Great helper there. So what was leaking? Must have missed a post or two. Was it the head, or intake gasket, or what?

Car Nut, it was the intake manifold. Someone before me tried to fix a coolant leak with Stop Leak but it did not work. When I pulled off the intake manifold I found that a bolt had broken off in the head. So it took me a few posts to figure out how to fix that problem, used a helicoil, and now I have to replace the crossover exhause because it broke. Now I have exhaust fumes blowing into the engine bay. A new crossover exhaust costs about 330 bucks at O'reillys or I can get one on line at Ebay for about $80 S&H included.

The one problem I now have is getting the %&&#^*%# rusted bolts broken loose. I will throw a bunch of PB blaster on it for a week and if that doesn't work I'll use a torch.

The best part is the wife will be along beside me to help. A second pair of eyes and a different way of doing something is always good to have. Too bad the temps are getting lower. Sucks to have a carport but that is life, I will have to deal with it.

A covered carport beats an open driveway any day. Unless it's a cold day & you need the sun rays to warm you up. Glad you got it figured out. Sorry it's been such a pita.

I have been lucky in the same way. My wife used to help me with almost any project. She loves puzzles and such. I used to let her rebuild all the old AFB carbs and such. She was quick and never had parts left over like I did. She also was a book keeper for a good size building contractor. So she learned quite a bit about building. We divorced but still remained friends. Hurricane Ivan did a lot of damage to her house so she asked my son and I to help her repair it. Damn What a Boss!!! She could spot something wrong a mile away. But she was always right there measuring and helping in any way she could. When she was little my daughter did not like to get dirty so she was the tool lady in the shop. She would keep all the tools picked upped and cleaned and replaced in its proper place. She also held the light and such. I never thought she learned much till I went over to her house and she was showing her husband how to change a alt in their Camaro. :banana :banana :banana

Glad to hear your wife helps you out! Sucks though to have to fix your car in winter after a huge cold front just went through.

It wasn't too bad bogs, I went to harbor freight and bought 2 blue tarps and wrapped two sides of my carport with them. Then Mrs. dayle1960 said, "we could put the propane heater in the carport to keep it warm." So that's what we did. Kept it nice and warm especially when the sun hit the blue tarp. Although the blue tarp cast a blue hue into the carport.

You do what you can do and live with the results.
