Some of you may remember that I bought this 02 Nissan Altima this summer. All in all it was a good deal, but I started having troubles with it right away. It started burning oil badly, 1 qt every 100 mi. Also the timing chain tensioner failed, so it had a terrible dieseling noise at idle. Well being that I am an automotive student, I had to do and engine rebuild for school, so I figured I might as well do this one. So I pulled it from the car and started to tear down to see what was causing the problems. What I found was that the the oil control rings were stuck to the pistons and no longer touching the cylinder walls, also the valves were not all closing all of the way. I successfully had the first start on my car yesterday, and it ran great! Now school is over for the semester and I cannot work on my car again until January, because the school is closed. But I will be replacing the CV shafts, and installing new brakes all of the way around and the car will be finished. I can't wait to be done with it and have it back in driving order again. Here are some pictures for those of you interested. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't get any pictures of me putting it back together or installing it, because once I get working I forget to take pictures. During the rebuild the car got, new pistons, rings, all bearings, new oil pump, complete timing set, new clutch, pressure plate, lightened flywheel and a shiny new header. More pics in January after I my wedding and other stuff. Any questions about the project please ask, I am pretty proud of this and would love to discuss it. Edited by undgsx-R, Dec 23 2010, 11:43 AM.
