alright guys, I am gonna try to make this short. There is a guy that owns this house that has been abandon for probably 5 yrs, it has a big shed that is starting to get in a bit of rough shape, but would be well worth owning. As for the house, it is in rough shape too and weeds have grown up around it. I know the guys name that owns it (according to the court house). With the housing market being down, and this house is located in a very small town where houses are cheap, I'm thinking that I could get a good deal. The main thing I want is that shed!!!.
So as of now I know the guys name, I very slightly know him. (he doesn't really know me) Now my big issue is finding the guy. I know the area that he lives in, or the are that he lived in a few years ago. But how would you go to find a contact number or address? could the post office help with that? His name isn't in the phone book.

I know this kind of sounds stalker like, but the place is going to hell and I think it would be worth a shot to get it, if the price is right.

Good possibility the town hall would have his name, address on record. The taxes on the property must be paid by some one. I don't know if they would readily give out that information or not, but worth a shot. Another way is through a real estate agent, if you were looking to purchase the property, I am more than sure they would be willing to track down this information.

My two cents worth.

Most counties have a county assessors website and you can search for properties by name. Look for your counties assessors website. Now days most people are on facebook. You might find him that way. If you have a police friend, he might run the guys address down for you. Just a few ideas. Leave a note on the door of the interested property. Look in the phone book for other names the same and call and ask if they know joe blow that has the same last name. And last my peronsal favorite, Hire a pilot to fly and drag a sign behind the plane asking the property owner of such address to call your number. Just kidding. A few years ago Jerry Lawler the wrestler was running for mayor of our fair city and hired a plane with such a message. Lawler for mayor. Everyone saw it. A slow moving blimp would be better though.

EDG is right about the assessors being online, and many you can search by address. They have contact info for the prop owner listed on the site.

Good luck! :thumb

If all else fails you can contact Garcia (baby doll) of the BAU and she can give you that info with the snap of a finger!

1. Public records would show ...
-who is the property owner
-the current value of the property
-whether or not the taxes are up to date
-and the contact address of the owner, if it is currently unoccupied
2. The local authorities and neighbors are typically more than happy to assist a prospective new owner, because vacant properties are a magnet for criminals and bring down the adjacent property values.
3. And, property owners don't like the burden of monitoring unoccupied dwellings.

Go for it.
You aren't stalking.
You are trying to do a good thing.
Let us know how it turns out.

What is it with these f'n shows? It would take over a year to link the databases they span in 2 seconds!

Run his name thru whitepages.com. Another good suggestion. Just go thru the streets calling out his name. It worked in saving private ryan. Now here is a Idea that is my own idea. Put a for sell sign in the yard with your number on it. When he sees it he will call you trying to figure out what the heck is going on. That way, you dont look for him, he looks for you.

I should light or not light his house on fire then wait for the news to show up. When the news shows up I will get on camera and ask for him. I will tell him I am interested in his property while his house is on fire or not on fire. lol (parental advisory edit)

anyways I went to a website and got a phone number and a few different addresses so I will go from there

In this state you can make a 'public records request' - if you feel the assessor did not give you all the information. They have a fixed period to respond and must give a reason if the choose not to.

I think all the info he had said the owner lived at the address of the vacant property....I will call about a few things tomorrow morning. Boy would I be happy if I could get it cheap. even if the house was junk, I wouldn't care. I'd tear it down. I just want that shed.....always wanted one (talking as if im 50, but im only 22 lol). Sheds are just so damn expensive not including the land.
I actually was in this garage once, back when my dad owned land close to this guy. It was plenty big for most the things I needed. The guy that im looking for had a late 70s ltd in there and even though they are ugly cars, this one was painted nice and looked sharp. and this is coming from a guy that is not a ford fan. He also always had cars in front of the shed that he would work on. They are gone now.
There is probably a good chance that taxes haven't been paid on it for several years, maybe I could pay the taxes on it. even if the guy still owns it, I will be able to make a connection with him just because my dad use to talk to him when we would visit the property (and when my dad talks to someone its not a 5 min conversation, its more like a 5 hr conversation about cars), I know for sure he will remember my dad, cuz he looks like a cave man.
I just need to do some more research and see what I could dig up.

Here is the ideal situation IF....IF I could get my hands on it. Lets say the house is fixable and liveable, I will fix it up and rent it out. I will keep the shed for myself. With the rent money I get from the house, that would go paying off the house if I were to owe any money and pay for my current expenses. I am just dreaming right now. I am hoping for the best but expecting the worst....damn I would really like that shed though lol

It's not unheard of to buy property for the back taxes owed.

Again, good luck! :thumb
