I really like the old Cubs & JD's too. New ones from HD are total junk. Would love to find an old Wheel Horse in a barn somewhere for cheap. Bought a Cub hydrostat a couple years ago off a guy a couple years ago. It looked like new. Ran fine on flat ground but was totally gutless going up any kind of incline. Suffered through one season & sold it the beginning of the next season. Don't miss it one bit. One big yellow turd I'm telling you.

Maybe you had a Cub Cadet that needed some work. Some just need a fluid and filter change, others need an adjustment. I have 3 hydro's a 1250, 1450, 1650. They will all pull a car and go up any incline with a 500# lawn roller. I would only trade any of these for a 782D which is a diesel. There is nothing on the market of this size that even compares and these machine are 30-40 yrs old. Zero turns are great and I love them but are not designed to pull have loads.

All of the old tractors are pretty good. JD's, Wheel horse, Case, Bolens.

One I had was a 46 in cut 20hp Kohler Commander engine. Was about 1 year old when I bought it. All of the newer machines are junk compared to the older machines. Even John D can't hold a candle to their old machines. Below is some interesting info copied right from Home Depots website. Note where the first quote says the machine should be operated.

The Cub Cadet 46 in 20 HP Kohler Hydrostatic Lawn Tractor is ideal for 1-2 acres with flat to slightly hilly terrain.

2nd quote is a review by purchaser of same model.

"transmission seized up at 11 hours. had to be hauled in to shop. luckily just the linkage because dealer told me transmission IS NOT repairable, must be replaced for ANY problem. also told me shouldn't be used to pull yard trailer because it is only meant for mowing. then at 31 hours hit a rock and pulley broke, bracket broke, belt seized. granted not a "factory" problem, but it wasn't much of a rock and caused $370 damage. not much of a tractor for $1300

Car Nut That's terrible. Older stuff meant to last. Newer stuff disposable :shit :shit. As for the Cub Cadets, the last good tractor was in 94 I think. It's what's refered to as the "Cyclopes" models. The new stuff is fine for absolutely flat ground with no dips or holes or rocks and don't ever pull a trailer or roller. Then if you're lucky it might last 5 yrs. The ones I have are early to late 70's models. Still have their original engines and nothing major done to them. They have had maintenance done and belt changes in 35-40 yrs. Not bad if you ask me! :banana :banana :banana
