I recently parted out a rust free 92 Metro and decided to cut the control arm mounts out to see if they can be used in somebody's rust bucket. The complete mount can be taken off your rusty car and replaced the right way and look like the factory made it. There are quite a lot of spotwelds holding this part on but if someone is willing to drill out the old welds and prep the metal the good mounts can be welded in the original place . I'd like to do a tutorial about how to do this but in my neck of the woods i've never run into a rusted out Metro to use for this project. I do have one three sets of mounts that i will be selling if anyone is interested. I have a right and left side right now and have two other parts cars that I plan on dismanteling this spring . Let me know what you think if anyone is interested. Check out this post that I put on Teamswift. http://teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=49858 Ken...... Edited by 91 ragtop, Jan 2 2011, 10:56 PM.

Wow, I've never seen that done before. You may have started a whole new business for yourself, as I can see a few folk wanting them, if they are really ambitous. Nice job!!

Thanks for putting the pics on here. On most websites I frequent all I have to do to put on a picture is click on the browse button and upload them from my files. This photobucket and imageshack thing just screws me all up and I get frustrated and give up. As for fixing the control arms this way most people could probably get by with just welding on some reinforcing metal but by doing it this way one would never know that there ever was ever a problem. I don't need a set, but it might be helpful to post a price. I can imagine there are many people on here that would love to have a set. |

I just saw your post 91ragtop and i am impressed. What a great idea . I know there a 92 metro is that the engine is gone from (not much else left either) but the frame horns are as good as those you show. I guess I get to lay on my back in the snow and start drilling. Thanks again Lee |

I want $125 per side shipped in the lower 48 states. I had about 2.5 hours per side to get them off and cleaned up. For me to do it (since I'm junking the car afterward) I cut the complete section out and then drill all the spotwelds. When you get them you have a pattern to follow so you can drill the ones that need to be drilled to get yours off in one piece also. If you looked at the pics you'll see that there are quite a few spots to drill. It'll be some work but the finnished product will look alot better than some of the jobs that I've seen on these sites. I can take Paypal or a USPS money order will work. Ken..... |

Would it be a good idea to treat the metal with something to prevent future rust before the installation? An ounce of prevention?..... |

I think it would be a good idea to spray or brush on whatever rust preventative people use on all the inside parts as long clean all the surface areas of the pieces where it will be welded on to the car. I have sold the two that I have off for now and won't be able to get any more off till spring. Ken.... |

Sand, sand, sand, sand, sand all the rust away (to an extent). At least that's what I've gotten from people here. ![]() Make sure rust is completely off or the whole thing is bust. |

It would be a good idea to use a weld-through primer on both pieces wherever they overlap. |
