Hi Everyone, I just bought a 93 geo metro (my first metro!). According to carfax it's a XFI...don't know if that matters. But what I need to find out is what size tire I should be running. I live up in northern Idaho and it came with studded winter tires and an extra set of rims. I wanted to find a good tire for upcoming trips to Oregon and California (and also for the summer months). Any advice? I'd like to maximize MPG as I drive about 600 miles/week to commute to school. Thanks so much! Chris |

Came with 145/80-12. They're hard to find, most guys are running 155/80-12, just a smidgen taller and wider, you'll never notice the difference. |

Best advice is to make sure it isn't rotted out. |

if you want to maximize MPG on the highway I would suggest switching to the 155 80 R13 tires off of a 95+ Metro. This will cut your effective gear ratio to more like a 3.54 and require you to either switch the driven gear for the speedometer ( easy) or to compensate mentally for the lower speedometer readings. You will either need the newer cars bigger wheel studs or larger lug nuts to safely do the swap. |

155/80 R13 will give you a "3.79" aka XFi transmission ratio. |

Thanks for the info. Yes, we did a complete check of the body. The engine was rebuild 20,000 miles ago. Drives great! I commute 3 days a week for grad school. 200 miles round trip. Not to bad though. Just a little rough in the winter. Budget is tight so I'll look at getting the 12' tires that way I can use the second set of wheels I got with the car. Maybe get a full size spare while I'm at it. Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll be one here quite a bit as we are going to work to redo the interior bit by bit! Take care, Chris |

Um, CB , he said he thinks it is already an XFI, switching to the taller tires would more likely give him the 3.54 Jim-Bob mentioned. I think. From your excellant thread http://geometroforum.com/topic/3548347/1/ 72:19 = 3.789 (1995+ 1298cc & XFI/1.0L/3 cylinder) |

Welcome to the forum, baker2121! My '91 came with studded snow tires on it and no extra tires or wheels. If you are looking for regular tires, I got my set at Les Schwab and I see a set at www.tirerack.com/ in Yokohama Y372s for $52, each plus shipping ($41 to central Idaho).
