I've been trying to get my girlfriend to quit, even using her lack off money as a motivator, yet still she continues smoking...bah! I guess you have to want to quit to actually quit. Just keep at it. I'm sure everything will go well for you. |

Great job Johhny! There are a few of us that make the turn to a better life. I know a few people in their 40's and 50's who still didn't grow up. A guy I used to work with is 54. He smokes 2 packs a day and drinks almost a case of beer a day and smokes the good stuff all day except when asleep and working. I just turned 40 in December and in general am trying to take better care of myself! I don't drink too often and quit smoking about 8 yrs ago. I'm just saying in general to directed to anyone. If you really want to quit smoking you will. I will tell you what worked for me but may not for everybody. For me I quit cold turkey. I think it's the only permanent way to quit. Gums and patches are crutches and may lead to starting again. I didn't change anything in my life except smoking. I still had my morning coffee but without a cigg. I even went with a buddy to a smoke filled bar to have just a beer. I still went outside at work on break and sat with my smoker buddies. I figured this way instead of avoiding all the smokers and then getting together again and start smoking again, I would not avoid and deal with others smoking and I'm not. No crutches for me I toughed it out and it wasn't that hard. The mind is powerful and if you want to you will.Don't be a slave to these ciggs. Other people don't tell me what to do and now I wont let ciggs tell me to smoke them! |

One thing that helped me quit my vices was the places that sold the stuff. You can buy a pack or 2 of smokes every day for years from the same place. One day you are a little short on cash and ask them to let you have a couple of packs because you are a steady customer. LOL Good Luck Same with Liquor stores. You spend all your money, drink up your pay check, think they will give you a free jug because you are good guy? Hell NO they dont give a damn Just give me your money. Quitting was my way of saying F.ck you!!! |

Well, we are all on your side Johnny. My Mom smoked so I grew up hating it. Still picked up on a few addictive habits, just not that one. Drinking was pretty easy. Easy to do in under age in the Navy. Easy to drink after I was legal, and I could do so in public. Easy to quit after passing out on the toilet, tossing my tacos a few times and not hanging with my "dumbass" friends. But that is moi. Whatever you decide, you have our support.

Tell me, how does one consciously buy a pack of cigs worth $9 ($5 in Ohio) while knowing they have no money? If one has limited funds, how can one "make room" to buy cigs? Does one sacrifice necessities for a pack of cigs? $9 can buy a lot of things (especially if you go to a farmer's market). How does a bowl of salad, bottle of grapefruit juice, and a lemon-garlic rubbed chicken seem all of a sudden inferior to a pack of cigs filled with chemicals and nicotine? I do not understand, people. I. Do. Not. Understand. She might as well just admit she has a drug problem. Edited by yiffzer, Jan 9 2011, 07:19 PM.
