I Felt So Inadequate Today...

I went to Harbor Freight to go and buy some jigsaw blades this afternoon. When I went to go and park what did I see but the coolest car of all time! Yes, of course I am referring to a real, genuine British Mini- specifically a mid 90's Rover Mini Cooper (MK IV). I was parked one space off from being nose to nose with it and it made me think just how huge my Metro was. If I hadn't broken my digital camera yesterday I would have snapped a picture. Also, if you think our tires are small, well this thing had 165 60 12's on it. Once again it renewed my goal to one day own one. I can't imagine another car I would want to own and drive more.

Love those cars, i've never seen one in person though. I'd like to get the G10 swapped into one though.

I've had a fascination with them myself, every since I first watched Mr. Bean :lol

Co-worker of mine has a 73', 10" tires. 12" is big for those cars!

BTW, a mid 90's mini?!
I thought there was some issue with importing any of them newer than the mid 70's.

I never see them around here, located two out in CA :( My preferences are with the earlier 60's models, but then, its the same with most cars :)

I've heard its hard to get cars from overseas. I was talking to an air force vet, and he said to get one from shipped home, he had to ship a car there first.

Yeah I love too. Passed one rotting away in my old housing scheme. Felt really sad instantly. :(

Well... it likely is not registered and VIN'd as a 90's Rover but rather an earlier model (Austin, Morris, Leyland, etc.). Since most people can't tell the difference, it was likely let into the country as being an earlier year. I however know my Minis and could tell by looking at the trim and interior what it was. I KNEW it wasn't a MK V because it had no air bag, but the grille bars pointed to it being a late model. Also, the legality issue is with cars newer than 25 years old. Older than that and it is fairly easy to import them to the US. As the Mini looks pretty much the same from 1959-1999, and new shells are still sold through BMH, it is pretty hard to date them accurately. Re-shelling a Mini with a new Heritage shell is fairly common in the UK, and as the new shells are all MK IV or MK V it would be very hard to tell what the car was originally based off of.

I want one of those 3 wheeled cars he drove in one of his series on PBS. As for feeling inadequated at Freight Harbor. They had a new lady working and I felt soo strange handing her a coupon for a free flash light.

You speak of the Reliant Regal/Robin/Rialto! Mr. Bean didn't drive them in the show, it was his nemesis that drove them.

My local PBS station just showed 2 episodes. The one where he paints the room by putting a stick of tnt in a can of paint. The other he is playing tag with someone in a parking garage and makes them roll over their car.
