Heineken remover Otherwise known as my uncle. I was an English major in JC so that list really didn't apply to me. Want to have fun? Intentionally mispronounce words. Some of my favorite things to do randomly in a conversation is to crowbar extra syllables into words where they are not needed (or wanted). Another fun thing is using the British pronunciations but keeping the American inflection. Try it: al-lu-min-E-um vs. alu-min-um or vit-a-mins vs. vita-mins |

Had a friend years ago who would say "electrolylic" instead of "electrolytic". Also, "mammalary" for "mammary". There is, of course, the famous "new-kew-lar" instead of "new-klee-ar". Do you say "KEW-pon"? It should be "Koo-pon". When I was a kid, we had a Warshing machine, used warshcloths, put warshers under bolts and nuts, and the capitol was in Warshington. Binghamton. I pronounced this as: BING-HAM-TON. Unfortunately, I found out just last year it was BINGHUM-TON. |

Since you're from the south I know you'll understand... I ax you a queshion... (Each time I hear that I wonder why the speaker harbors such hatred for the question to cut it up with an ax...) |

I grew up in SoCal with Mom from Arkansas and Dad from Wyoming. Guess I have a SoCal accent. The Navy was an education in 'Breakfast, Dinner and Supper' but on my first cross-country bicycle ride I met a Baha'i named "Red" in Shreveport, Louisiana. To 'blend in' he taught me the different pronunciations of New Orleans, New-or-lans and Nar-lans, or Nawlans said twice as fast and slurred. To this day I can't look at the name of the city, Natchitoches, LA and pronounce it, as he taught me. Spoiler: click to toggle Edited by Bad Bent, Jan 9 2011, 01:30 PM.

I go one better and try to use words from different English speaking countries in the US. It's still correct English but it takes people aback to hear them from a slob who delivers pizza. I also like to create my own words sometimes like "destenchification" ( which I use to describe the elimination of doggie scent from my Metro) which sould sort of correct but aren't.
