I just got a HUGE shock from my insurance company. They want 150% more to insure my Metro than my Frontier- $2500 a year vs $1,000 a year. This pretty much negates all of my fuel savings from the Metro so I have decided to sell it and put the money towards the remaining policy premium on my truck. I do carry pizza delivery insurance, but that is only about $200 a year more on the truck than normal insurance would be. I may try for a 95+ Metro if the insurance is cheaper than the 89-94 cars, but most likely it will be replaced later on by a 1995-99 Nissan Sentra 1.6/5 speed. I will still have the white 1994 Metro for a while to see if gas really does hit $5 a gallon, but if it doesn't that one will be sold too. Sorry, I just can't afford to pay that much for insurance. |

That's a shame Jim bob. I guess the insurance company is basing that on crash test ratings. The newer metros are a little safer in a crash than the smaller ones. Give us some info and pics of your '91 and I'm sure someone here will want it. I bet it's not rusty being a florida car. Good luck. |

I know I am getting raped. unfortunately, they are the only company I can find that will touch pizza delivery insurance in my area so they get to screw me. For pictures, it's this car: http://geometroforum.com/topic/4011223/1/. It is rust free where it counts, but has some rust on the front doors on the bottom of the inner panel. Nothing is visible outside the car and the structure is all solid as are the floors, rockers, fenders, etc. I was thinking of asking $950 for it as I need to recoup my investment and pay for some of the insurance. What the heck is Pizza Delivery Insurance? , and why do you need it? Is this some kind of add on Ins. that you can buy?$2500 for Insurance is absolutely absurd for a Metro!! I have full coverage on my Tahoe, and it only costs me $800 a year.

Dude, I'd just skip the pizza delivery insurance. If you total your Geo you're out very little money. Don't tell them you use it for deliveries (that's what I did when I delivered pizza). Paying 3x what the car is worth for insurance in a year is absurd. Time to switch insurance companies and ditch the extra insurance (those greedy bastards take too much of our hard earned money as it is). |

Dude, what he said. Don't tell them you're delivering pizza. WTF? $2,500 is stupid. That's $208 a month. I pay only $43 a month (and that's with bare minimum insurance). You shouldn't be having full coverage for a car that's worthless to replace if it gets totaled. Time to switch over to a new insurance company. Edited by yiffzer, Jan 12 2011, 06:09 PM.

Well, while I've never had 'pizza-delivery' insurance in any of the jobs I've had, I kinda understand where your coming from. However, there is a better way to insure yourself I think. The reason you buy insurance is for 2 things, 1 make yourself whole after an accident, 2 make sure you don't work the rest of your life if you hurt someone else. You own your own house, and you have cars, I would consider an umbrella policy instead of this specialized insurance. For your own car, since it cost you $250. your not going to need to have your insurance company replace it if you get wrecked, so thats a wash. Your main remaining issue is if you hit someone else (and cause them serious injury), just pick up the insurance for that. I would shop other companies as well, $2500. is far too steep for the amount of damage that this car either can do or will have done to it. |

yea I agree with honestabe and yiffzer. Why do you need pizza delivery insurance? I have never had an insurance company ask if I use the car for pizza delivery. You just say that its your daily driver. So if you get into a wreck while delivering pizza, then the insurance company won't cover? that sounds like bs. Just go bare minimum, or atleast enough to coverage injuries and property. There is no reason to have full coverage on your car...do you even have full coverage? Also don't incriminate yourself. Only answer questions that the insurance company asks. Just tell them how many miles you put on it. Tell that company that you have other insurance offers and shop around. Don't quit that easily. You know you will kick yourself in the ass later. |

Another thing to add, insurance companies never ask for an odometer reading so if you tell them you drive 9000 miles a year and you actually drive 30k a year they will never know the difference and tou will save money. I always tell insurance companies I drive less than 10k per year and I only drive for pleasure. Back when I was delivering pizza I told my insurance company that I do pizza delivery and they told me they can't insure me. Needless to say I lied and said I worked inside only. If you get in a wreck tell the insurance company you were just running an errand on a break because if they find out you were on a delivery they may deny your claim. |
