That's outrageous, but young and Florida are both working against you. Don't even consider full coverage on a Metro, they'll never give you more than $1,500 no matter what your car is like or what happened to it. A $70 a month difference gets you that much money in two years. Try 21st Century Insurance. I was with Progressive purely because of the low price for seven years, but since Flo has been around (still love Flo just like Mr Murph, can't figure out why though) the price has creeped up to pretty much the same level as the others. 21st Century is brand new, Internet only, and trying to build a clientele. Just like Progressive was eight years ago. They'll probably hire a meerkat or something and advertise themselves out of the cheep category soon, but for right now, they've got a good deal. The prices have been going up to pay Flo's salery. On a serius note. What about an "operator's policy" When I was in NV. I had many cars that I had to use over the coarse of a month/day/week. So the ins. was on me, not a specific car. I paid a little extra. But it was worth it. No matter what I got in or climbed on, ( Flo not included) I had insurance. Over priced ins. is one of the hassles of being young. All of us old farts had to figure out how to do this. But we found a way. You will too. I keep 3 rigs. And pay less than $60 month. But I live in a very rural area. What about keeping an address in an area that is cheaper for ins? Alot of the price is related to area codes.

I have usaa and I pay $300 every six months. I wonder if being in Florida has anything to do with that. |

Ditto. I pay $35 for each of my Metros for 6 months added to my policy. I have 5 vehicles on my policy and 1 is full coverage and I pay less than $1200 a year total. Florida insurance rates do suck!

What's amazing is that in 4 pages no one has given me an answer to the actual question asked. Does anyone have an idea what I should ask for this car? |

The problem answering your question is that it is so dependent on where you live and your local pricing structure. Where I live, you'd have no problem getting 1k for it, probably more (I haven't been out shopping Metros recently). Of course, I live in a land of rusted out wrecks, your in sunny Fla. Look through the local ads, find cars that match your car in description, then price accordingly. Of course, better for you if prices on gas keep going up, makes your car more valueable. |

I'll give you $50. But seriously...look at what they are selling for...classified ads, eBay, craigslist, Auto Trader, etc. kbb.com figures private party value for a '91 2 door LSi in good condition at $1100. Fair condition at $625. Find a price you will be satisfied with. Ask about 40% more. This way, the customer has some room to haggle with you, he feels he's gotten over on you, and you've still gotten what you wanted out of the car. That being said, I still think you are better off keeping the car than selling it, but I'm not you. If all else fails, I'll still give you $50. |

List it at 2000, say price is very flexible. It's worth whatever someone will pay. |

OP, there are people out there who are willing to spend a lot of money for a Geo Metro. Just show the condition of the car clearly and show how many MPG you get. The more firm the evidence is, the more confidence (or actually nervous) that they feel about your price. Nervous because they'd feel bad to even haggle your offering price. Setting $2,000 is not unrealistic. You could start with eBay though - people DO bid to pretty high prices.Just for liability? $28 a month is dirty cheap. How old are you? Any violations in history? Rural area? City? What?

I'd also suggest ebay. Somebody up north with lots of dough & wanting a rust free one might be really interested in it. There's a lady the sells geos on ebay all the time & gets big bucks for them. |
