I love my '98 metro but it sets up too high. I've read through the threads and I noticed where someone mentioned that the older springs (say a 94 metro) are softer and if installed on my 98 it would lower the front end. Has anyone tried that combination yet?????? I really do not want to cut the springs. Thanks Lee |

You're not going to hurt it cutting them. Yes they are softer. Yes they will ride lower. Yes handling will probably be worse with them. |

DO NOT CUT THEM .... it will hurt them .... coils are designed to have the first ring as a harded ring . its what keeps them shape of the spring and keeps them from turning or becoming misshaped (while going around a corner). the rest of the spring is soft to allow for travel. so if you cut it it will lose its shape over time( maybe while going around a corner with your kids in the car). call bell tech they can make you a custom set under a 100 ..... be safe spend the money and do it right.. ive seen to very nice trucks totaled because they cut there springs the spring gave way as the where turning not a pretty sight. ive been doing lowriders for 20+ years i know how to lower and cutting springs is not it. |

Metro's are one of the few cars where cutting springs is a very good option. Not only does it drop the car an inch or two, it gives it slightly better cornering ability and greatly reduces body roll. I have cut springs on my metro, Coche Blanco has cut springs, Obaja has been running on cut springs for a long time. If you want it done right, dish out $200-300 for a set of H&R springs. |

Cut because it's been done and proven vs do not cut because it'll backfire on you?

Seems strange it's the front you're worried about, it's the back end that looks goofy way up there. Nothing wrong with cutting your springs, as long as you don't go crazy with the amount of cut, and as long as you don't do it with a torch while the car is sitting on them (I've heard of worse stupidity before). It's a lot better idea than putting in the older car springs, that would turn it into mush. You can get H+R springs from TireRack for $190, or you can cut one coil off the front springs and 3/4 coil off the rears. You'll end up with the same result either way, about 1.25" drop and a bit stiffer ride. You should definitely replace the struts at the same time, preferably with something a bit better, like KYG GR-2. |

Woodie is the man to talk to about lowering a metro. I have personally seen his car, the way it sits is awesome. Maybe he would be so kind as to post some pics of the side view of it for everyone on here. I made the mistake of heating my springs on my taurus, it ruined the ride and made filling rattle over bumps. Woodie still owes me a ride to see what its like to have poly bushings and cut springs. |

The cut springs on my geo have been fine. Like i've said many times, dont cut them as much as i did or your ride will suffer a lot. The way it looks alone was worth it to me but the improvement in handling is what i'm really happy about. There are a few threads on this subject. Go read up on it. It's really a personal preference to cut or not. |
