Googled this up,

http://ask.metafilter.com/174197/Tire-pressure-in-cold-weather

One thing I found that was said on that site applies to my situation. It said if all four tires were low by the same amount it was due to cold air. My tires had 30 a few weeks ago and when I checked they were all at 10 at 18 degrees outside compared to probably 70 before.

23 is too low for pretty much any road tire that's meant to be driven daily.
Wasnt me that said it, it was the gm factory service manual for a 1995 geo metro.
That's a typo. The recommended tire pressure for all Metros (maybe not a convertible, not sure) is 32 psi.

More interesting reading, Since geos are light and small I could see where the ride would be better at 23 psi. I am not convinced it is a typo. Gonna have to check the door jam sticker and see what it says. Load ratio does play a factor.

My jam sticker says 32psi at max load. With max load being 688 pounds, occupants and cargo.

What about not max load? I would venture to say hardly any of us on this forum drive with max load most of the time. That being in the equation the 23 psi doesnt seem that far fletched for the best ride. Stick a 175 pound man in there with no cargo riding to work every day that is far from max load of 688 pounds. Now for fuel consumption the 32 psi would be better or even better max psi on side of tire..

23 psi? LOL. I run 20 psi in my Supra's rear tires when drag racing and 30 psi on the street for traction. I run 45 psi in my 36 psi max tires on my Geo and the ride is just fine.

I've had six Metros, including an 89 and an 01. Every one said 32 psi.

That's good to know, all 4 of the geo's tires where low and 3 of the tires on our eclipse where low. I wasn't sure if it was the weather or a practical joke lol

Thats pretty close iamgeo, but i managed to get them to sit between the top of the pass. dash through the back seat and hanging out the trunk only a bit. EDG, I wish I had taken pics, it was pretty interesting to see with the little red flags tied on to boards that were sticking out my trunk :lol

winter tires
last year
with 155 80 13 snows on front 40 psi,
the car was a menace . could not go , could not stop could not turn
scary to drive in any kind of snow or ice Posted Image

this year
with 195 60 14 pacemark snows on front and 185 65 15 nokian hakkapalita studded in the rear
the car covers ground like a little mountain goat , snow ice slush whatever , just point and squirt and off it goes
all at 50 psi
not as good as the audi , but it will always get there , until the snow reaches the floor and the tires have no weight on them

Posted Image
you can just barely see that is have replaced the older bucket headlamps with newer plastic aerodynamic composites from
pa metro
they are better , after the lenses get polished and aiming is done correctly

front 195 60 14
honda accord 14" steel rims
Posted Image

rear 185 65 15
acura 15" alloy rims Posted Image
Posted Image

the 185 65 15 snow tires rub if mounted in the front
but
Bridgestone 185 60 15 RE92 do not
