Tired of $3 a gallon gas? Why not run your Metro on wood!

For those of you who may not know, yes it is possible to run an internal combustion gasoline engine off of wood. It has been done for over 100 years in times when oil was scarce. Wood gassifiers were even offered as factory-installed options and kits by major manufacturers such as GM, Ford, Volvo, Toyota and VW during the 1930's and the second world war. Modern adaptations of the technology are usually home-brew but it is possible to run your car on it or even theoretically generate electricity for your house. Search terms on the subject would include: producer gas, pyrolization and wood gas. For an article on a Metro-sized and aged car run off of wood, go to this site about a Serbian man who runs his Yugo off of wood: http://freeweb.deltha.hu/zastava.in.hu/wood-gas.htm

This is interesting. It makes me wonder if people who use generators to power their appliances (as in living way up in the boonies) would benefit by converting to wood? And what about a pallet stove? Fill the hopper and forget about it.

Thats that biofuel I was talking about. Burning the hydrocarbons in the exhaust of the wood or trash burning. I dont think it works on demand that well. Its better suited for a generator with a constant speed at a constant load.
