The Chevy Aveo is a fairly new car, but it's a piece of crap. The Daewoo powerplant is garbage and notorious for major internal issues. Most 2004-2006 models can be found for anywhere from $3000 to $6000 depending on mileage and condition. I have seen a few non-running cars for as low as $1500 One of these cars came in for Inspection the other day and I checked it out. In order for a G10 to run separate from the car, you need the engine, wiring, ECM, and cluster. By the looks of it, the cluster will fit right in the Aveo dash and there is ample room to drop in a Suzuki engine and transmission combo. The only hard part of the job would be fabricating engine/trans mounts and making the axle shafts work. Curb weight on an Aveo 4 door hatchback is 2600 LBS which is 700 LBS heavier than a 1996+ Metro hatchback. With some weight reduction done, the weight can be lowered on the Aveo without compromising the safety of the car and the powerplant swap alone would drastically drop the weight. I am thinking that as the Geo Metro ages and they are getting harder to find that scarfing up an Aveo 2 door Hatchback for cheap would be a logical choice as a replacement chassis for the G10 Suzuki. |

Wouldn't it be easier to fix the problems with that motor? They're not all bad. These guys kicked ass for a few years, and never had a single DNF I do cams for that motor

I prefer this body instead:![]() Curb weight: 2,366 lbs. Beautiful looking car, really. It would be the next thing if there were no more Geo Metro bodies. |

I like the looks of the Accent, but the MPG stinks. I shopped and I shopped and I shopped for a new car a few months ago and came to a singular conclusion: Toyota Yaris 3 door. I went to the local auto show and it only cemented my conviction as the interior is well laid out and made of decent enough materials. They are among the most reliable new cars on the market as well as the cheapest. Plus, they can hit 30 mpg city which is considered respectable in these days of no new Metros. I even found a place on Truecar that would sell me one for around $11k for the most basic model. That means it has A/C, PS and PB but no radio. If I end up in a new car any time soon it will be a white Yaris rolling on genuine moon discs. It's a bit on the big side for me, but it's the only choice I see in the current market. I'll also add that in Europe, the base Yaris engine is a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder that it shares with the amazing Toyota Aygo and it's Peugeot and Citroen clones. If only Toyota were to see fit to sell it here...![]() The three cylinder/5 speed Toyota Aygo. Sold in 2 or 4 door hatchback. As for the Aveo, no thanks. NOTHING on those cars was made to last and they seem to dissolve into a pile of parts before they even hit 100k miles. Interior trim parts are known to fall off on test drives. As James May put it on Top Gear ( while driving an Aveo), "The only reason you would buy this is because you haven't looked at anything else." Edited by Jim-Bob, Jan 14 2011, 03:19 AM.

The other alternatives for late model econo-cars are the mini cooper and the smart. However, these are made by BMW and Mercedes, and are very expensive to maintain and repair. Also the Smart doesn't have a back seat. I kind of like the Honda Fit. |
