Right now, January 2011, I am in need of new Tires. My current Kumho Power Stars lasted a good 10 years and they were really good. But now they are worn down and the rears have absolutely no tread left. The right rear has metal cord showing. I was told that nowadays it's extremely difficult to get new 155/80 R12 tires and they have to be Special Ordered. I was Quoted $374.00 for them. I think it's too much and for a Geo Metro. I remember paying only $128.00 for them about 10 years ago. Any suggestions and how much should new 12s cost these days? |

Ebay $91.99 plus shipping for two. Tirerack.com doesn't even list them. They do have the original equipment 145/12 listed which you really don't want. Like Alpine said, go for rims & tires in 13 in size. I run 14's on mine with no issues. See pinned topic below on wheels that will fit your ride. http://geometroforum.com/topic/701184/1/ |

I'm with Alpine, get yourself 13" rims. The tire selection is better and you'll be able to get a set mounted and balanced for about $150-180. |

Just this morning I bought a set of 205/65R15 GoodYear Assurance Comfort Tread for my wifes car. Mounted, balanced and out the door for $370.00. I gave the guy doing the work a $20 for his effort. The guy at the counter said I could get a set of 155/R12 for $160.00 installed.(off brand tires) So, Yes, I believe $374.00 is too much for tires. |

If you lived in Illinois I'd sell you two complete sets of 12" tires on rims for $10/each. I am running 13"ers on both my Metros and do not need the 12"ers anymore. |

$372 is too much. Aim for $50 per tire installed. No more than $200. Better yet, buy awesome 14" Elbrus rims: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=wheelCloseUp&wheelMake=Elbrus&wheelModel=I05&wheelFinish=Silver+Machined+w%2FIce+Coating And some 14" tires. You'll have an envious car. |

Yes, very much so. Unless they are some kind of track compound. |

How much would it be to ship it? It would be still be far less than the $374 price. Edited by yiffzer, Jan 14 2011, 10:53 PM.

I've got 50% left on 4 Kuhmo powerstar 155-80R12's, mounted on rims for $50 if you want to drive out to Ventura. After my 13" upgrade I don't need them. Also have the spare and lug wrench. If you want new, America's Tires has them on their website for $40 each. Forget what the cost is for mount and balance. Edited by JellyBeanDriver, Jan 14 2011, 11:45 PM.

I purchased 2 155/80 R12 tires brand new in Palmdale at Affordable Tire, 924 East Ave Q-6, Palmdale - (661) 947-3640...$104 out the door. This was about a month ago. Tires are Chinese, 44psi rated, 400 Treadwear, A Traction, A Temperature (from tire manufacturer's website, info never seems to be on 12" tires). Hope this helps...might be worth the drive... You can also do what one owner did, he rounded up spares from a Altima, 15 inch and installed VW tires on them for about $50.00 ea |

Thanks, guys. Yep, I knew $374.00 was too much. This is from Pep Boys in Reseda on Reseda Blvd. I think I like JoeBob's and JellyBeanDriver's ideas the best. Unfortunately, since I have NO MONEY right now I have to save for several months. Also, California's Registration Fee in 2011 for a 1990 Geo Metro 3 Cylinder is Too Much too! Try $127.00. My car is Grounded for several months. Looks like GeoPalooza in Ashtabula Ohio for this year is Out for me again. However, I'm gonna keep JellyBeanDriver and JoeBob on the back burner for now until I get enough money. |
