We have the same law here, came in last year. Still most drivers seem to talk and text holding the phone. Really makes no difference here, as it is still okay to shave, pluck your eyebrows, apply make-up, eat a double whopper or turn around to the back seat to smack the kids while you are driving. But Don't Touch the Phone.
I don't hardly even talk when I am driving, I have a GPS attached to the windshield and the radio station stays where it is until I can change it when stopped at a light.
Far to many bad drivers for me to watch, then have my attention put to other things. Driving 36 years, 1 accident (ditched my car in a blizzard).
I was a Health and Safety Officer for years and there is no such thing as an accident. there is a root cause for everything.
I always wondered why they called it "accident."

I can chew gum and walk. Is that not multitasking?
No, it's rapid task switching. /sarcasm

We do have this great component called the subconscious mind. It is the subconscious mind that constantly works even when you're sleeping. It is this component that automates a lot of the daily work that you do, i.e., chewing gum and walking. So we really are multitaskers at heart but just not the conscious level.

nobody can multi task. its physically impossible. the human brain is an amazing thing but multi tasking is something that is not currently possible for it to do.

no matter what you THINK you can do its NOT multi tasking.

What you can do AT BEST is prioritize rapid task switching.

before you say well I can breath. No you can't. your brain stem does the breathing and the beating NOT YOU. its a "seperate" processor a seperate CPU so to speak dedicated to running these things for you.
BS! Pure and simple.
People multi task all the time.
Your wordplay is getting really ridiculous.

Actually, he is correct. We really can't multitask consciously:

For all practical purposes we can multi task.
Switching rapidly from one task to another is the human way of multi tasking.

its called an illusion IAMGEO. you think you can multi task so you try to multi task which is why people who use the phone and drive or text and drive DIE. FAST. (or worse KILL someone else)

This is also why pilots have this concept trained OUT OF THEM hard. they are trained to check each function and instrument in rapid sequential order taking most advantage of our task switching capacity.

They are trained right from the get go. YOU CAN NOT MULTI TASK so you must learn to task switch as efficiently as possible.

"For all practical purposes we can multi task.
Switching rapidly from one task to another is the human way of multi tasking. "

thats just well I don't know man that just takes the cake.

Switching Rapidly from one task to another IS BY DEFINITION TASK SWITCHING.

Muti Tasking is by definition ACTIVELY performing two calculations SIMULTANEOUSLY. AT THE PRECISE EXACT SAME TIME.

there is no "its basically" about it.

people who delude themselves into thinking they can multi task who then climb into multi ton machines GET PEOPLE KILLED.

That is the basically about it.

My geo only weighs 1600lbs, it's not even one ton. So...is it cool that I text and drive in it?

Driving a semi takes multi-tasking or whatever you want to call it. You have to shift, watch your mirrors, listen to music, monitor your GPS, keep your eyes on the gauges, ect. If you can't do this PLEASE stay off the roads and avoid getting yourself or any else killed :rad . I agree you should pay as much attention to the road as possible but if you can't do simple tasks while driving you need to voluntarily go to your BMV and turn in your drivers license. Tell them you are a danger to yourself and others :screw . Then take a taxi back home :backpack !

Just for the record I can eat a bowl of cereal, read the morning paper, play games on my phone, listen to music, shift gears, wave at the Amish, pick my nose, :pee all at the same time while driving!

We should all ride bicycles.
Too many idiots manage to get killed on those too :lol

Super

Bogs my dad would agree with you. He has never had a cell phone but asks to use mine when we are out all the time.
I never had a cel phone and do not use anyone elses cel phone (have had lots of other people offer them to me). I'm not sorry, but I just find them silly. I sure don't ever want to be in a position where someone calling me is so important I can't do anything else till I take that call / text message. Funny thing is, I've never seen anyone carrying one that was in that circumstance either.

Most of the people I see with cell phones remind me of the old Star Trek series, walking around, ruddy glow on their faces like they are staring into tri-corders looking for intelligent life. Sorry to report they haven't found it yet Posted Image

No you can not super duty. if we connected your brain up to a computer to "watch" what your doing you would see that your "switching" between multiple tasks. Some people (like pilots and truckers) get very good at this but ITS NOT MULTI TASKING. its "task switching"

do it fast enough and it creates the ILLUSION of multi tasking. For example until dual core computers (and even those have big limits) NO computer could multi task. I don't care if its running DOS windows 98 windows XP windows 7 or Mac OS10 or BSD.

on precise instruction at a time. Period. your brain is the same way.

this becomes RAPIDLY noticeable when you attempt to perform two tasks that both require your undivided attention. Then you find out really quickly (and if your lucky still alive) just how NON multi tasking you really are.

Get fast enough and task switching and multi tasking become semantic. get two full time tasks on your hands and it VERY quickly becomes anything but semantic.

Bogs. you NEED 3 things. Air, Food, and Water. that's it. everything else is luxury if you really want to get down to it.

do I need a cell phone? no not even slightly. but I "want" one.

just like you WANT you metro or the shirt on your back.
