Do not buy a Prius! Its a lame-o chick car, and parts are super hard/expensive to replace
The kind of person that typically owns a car has no bearing on my decision as to what I will buy. I'm a free thinker when it comes to this stuff and tend to do things based on technical merit, not fashion. I break people down into two categories: Those that get it and those that don't. Those that don't are irrelevant as they typically lack the same approach to life and problem solving that I take and thus their opinions are of little consequence. I don't do things to impress the opposite sex either as I am 37 and my options are usually not appealing to me in that regard. Sex is NOT a driving force in my life.

That being said, I agree with the cost issues related to hybrid ownership. It's the one thing that keeps me from immediately purchasing one ( well... that and I would need to come up with $4k at minimum to own one...). That is why I am in the research phase right now to determine the most cost-effective transportation solution to use at work. There are several parameters to consider, like cost of purchase, reliability, fuel costs, parts costs, insurance costs, etc. Within those categories are several other issues too like figuring out what a technically capable person like myself can do versus the general public. I know that the dealer cost for a Prius battery pack is quite high, but is there a cheaper alternative that the greater Prius community has found that would also serve my needs? I know from my research that there are people who rebuild hybrid batteries and have seen price quotes as low as $600 to do so. If that was available locally then it changes the whole cost dynamic and makes a broken or older Prius a viable alternative to a pure ICE vehicle.

Hi Jim-Bob
I own 3 geo's, one being an XFI, I also own a 2005 prius which my son drives most of the time, He is often on the priuschat.com forum.

My son also did the research before I bought the prius and convinced me to purchase it.

It is a great car, I usually get 55mpg and sometimes get 60 mpg my son averages 43 mpg because he has the heater or the air conditioner on and drives the car like a corvette.

There was also an article on motor trend magazine I read which had the prius and the geo XFI on the front page.

My girl LOVES my Geo. You should see her hanging on eyes wide open when I throw it hard into a corner tyres screaming ... or when I got "that" CD on blast and she's wining away to the latest Shaggy while we cruise. And when we get married sex will DEFINITELY be a driving force in my life!! Until then:

SHAGGY!!!!!!!!!!!!
