There might be enough brake line there that you could cut it off at that nut. You can then go to pretty much any auto parts store and get a new nut and borrow a flare tool.
Been there, done that.

I guess I am getting it towed in to where I work. At least there I have access to any and every tool out there. And there are two mechanics who know Metros very well. One still drives one almost every day. So basically I will have one of them help me out if they can and hopefully I can get both wheel cylinders replaced, the brake shoes replaced, and the brake fluid bled so it will all work.

Ya I could. But its getting late now. Not sure how late the parts stores are open. But I cant imagine much longer. But I think I am just going to get it to where i work. and go from there.

I think you're doing the right thing. It's too cold outside now for the repairs that you need & the time it's gonna take to do it right. If it was me I'd just cut off the line(s) & replace with new along with new cylinders, shoes & a brake hardware kit. Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out.

I would have cut the line, replaced the cylinder and dug out the line flaring tool. When it comes to rusty fasteners, I don't piss around.

I am glad you got your brakes fixed. Brakes are one thing you don't want to mess around with.

What happened is the piston has been overextended too many times in the master cylinder. There may even be fluid in the booster. I had this happen and when I decel or braked hard, the car actually smoked and ran rough because it was sucking the brake fluid into the engine vacuum from the booster :news
