![]() I think GM's new Chevy Spark is a worthier sucessor to the Metro than the Aveo. I assembled some of it's specs for a comparison and they are interesting.
This is the car derived from the Chevy Beat concept. The Beat was a 2 door and I wish GM had kept it that way. There will also be a Z-Spec version with bigger wheels, body kit, tail and significantly upgraded interior, possibly even the 1.4 turbo. Lutz has said it'll start at just over $10,000 but we'll see. |

I could rock it... im wondering who the engine is made by. Suzuki did make a 1.2 for the euro market if the engine is still made by Daewoo then no thank you i'll wait 8 or 9 years then start pulling bone yard cars and planting G-series in them but its gotta come in a 5 speed. |

5 speed is standard, 6 speed auto optional and a 6 speed manual but only mentioned for the 1.4 turbo engine. If Daewoo made a 1.2 then It would be a good guess that this is the same engine. The 1.8 and 1.4 turbo are supposed to be made here as they're also used in the Chevy Sonic and Chevy Cruze. I've never read of a normally-asperated version of the 1.4. The Euro version also had a 1.0 4 version but that won't make it here either. The Chevy Sonic which is the actual replacement for the Aveo looks like a stretched version of the Spark with a more conservative front end. |

It's hideous. The dashboard/instrument cluster looks like a lame afterthought. I hate the color. It better be < 10,000 bucks based on the ugliness factor. I'd still drive it based on the mileage numbers. |

It just doesn't have the same sense of style that the 89-94 Metro did. I love the looks of the early Metro, but I hate this thing. Too tall and ungainly like so many of the so-called small cars of today. Kill about a foot of height and I might change my mind.

I agree that it's way too tall, but that seems to be the going thing for small cars these days. It is a Daewoo variant, but that wouldn't turn me off completely. I used to have a couple '89 Pontiac Lemans's which were Daewoo and everything but the blower motor switch held up fine with lots of high schooler abuse.. lol. I've been keeping my eye on the new Ford Fiestas too, especially if they ever make a 2door version to be sold over here.

I used to be all about this car when I first discovered it. We talked briefly about it at GeoPalooza as a replacement for the Metro, but many noses turned up toward the fact its Daewoo. I think I'd still give it a chance. Our Metros have plenty of faults, but we're just smart enough to repair them and keep them going. I don't see why we couldn't just do the same with the Spark. However, I am a pretty big fan of the new Sonic coming out. The 1.4T 6 speed manual will be pretty sweet! At the lighter curb weight than the Cruze, my guess is that it'll get 42-44 mpg. The other cool thing to think about is the interchangeable parts between the Sonic & Cruze. They both have the "same" tranny/engine, but those who want more power/tourque could maybe switch the 1.4T for 1.8 & pair the 1.8 with the turbo manifold along with the 6 speed manual to make a 1.8T 6 speed Sonic. Edmonds has the suggested retail to be ~$12k for the Sonic, so I could see the Spark being around $10k which is what the Metro sold for. Daewoo or not, I think it'll be just fine. Every vehicle on the road has its short comings and people like us will figure out how to repair/make them better. |

There's no reason to use the G10 with another "shell". Newer engines are more efficient and make more power. We need to put newer engines in Geo "shells". |

I agree. I had the same thought. We would have to import in Euro motors. |
