Forgot His Manpurse

The only times I've been pulled over was just for speeding.

Edit: Not all state troopers are fair. They will find a reason to pull you over. It's a quota thing.

I can without doubt say that law enforcement is attracted to big, loud, smelly diesel trucks way more than a small putsy car. I can barely go through town without at least drawing a look from someone in uniform.
X2 also in my area. If you have a big diesel truck with stacks bellowing black "sweet as spring air" smoke then you will get stopped and possibly get a ticket! Little cars they don't even mess with. If you drive a Metro they know you don't have any money!

Contrary to what most of you guys believe, the fact is simple as this: If you drive a Geo Metro-Period-Especially a 3 Cylinder one, you are Ticket Bait.

Sorry, I'm Not a fan of Cops or Law Enforcement in any way Whatsoever. I'll Serve and Protect MYSELF Thank You!!
Whatever...

Your lack of love for law enforcement is clouding your mind. I'm not going to search for it but somewhere on this forum is a post telling my story about getting pulled over in the Metro at a Christmas Eve traffic checkpoint with no plates, no registration, no proof of ownership and two guns in the car. The cop let us go right on through. So much for the "cops hate Metros" theory <G>.

Holy cow, I'd probably still be sitting in jail if it was me.

My Metro has all sorts of illegal things about it; way too dark tint, loud exhaust, no front tag, all white lights up front with blueish high wattage bulbs, no rearview mirror or CHMSL for about five years, one wiper for a year, no wipers at all for four months or so, and in 150K miles, I've only been pulled over once. It all comes down to whether you attract attention to yourself or not.

I know exactly why I was stopped that once, and it was because I was acting suspicious. I realized I didn't have my coffee thermos at the exact instant that I pulled up to a four way stop opposite a cop. All the cop saw was some guy who started rooting around on the floor and under the seats as soon as he saw the cop.

Richard Kaltenbach, you need to take responsibility for your actions.
You are not being pulled over just because you are driving a Metro. You are obviously doing something that is attracting attention to yourself.
Maybe you have a record, perhaps the police are very familiar with you.
Since you blame the police for all your troubles I will assume you are one of those that mouths off to them when you get pulled over.

Even though you may be an ass to them you can bet they will be there in a heartbeat if you are in trouble and need them.
Now onto the OP.

yea those are good tips but what i need are things like is neon illegal are mud flaps required and my side windows are back lit so will i need to unplug them for the trip?

As far as the neon lights are concerned, it would be best to leave them off. Why risk getting a ticket just to look cool.
Where did you hear that mud flaps may be required on a car?
Back lit windows can impair your ability to see out of them at night. Best to leave them off also.
Do you have a pic of the side windows? What is it that the back lighting is showing off?

USUALLY not always but USUALLY if its legal in your state of registration other states MUST honor it as well.

if your state does not require mirror or flaps then other states CAN NOT ticket you for that infraction if it is required in their state.

The same USUALLY applies to things like lights (neon) but it would be safer to put that kind of thing on a switch just to avoid the hassle factor.

radar detectors are a loop hole because they are not part of the car. I was thinking about building one right into the car and claiming (legitimately) it came like that from the factory (my custom car factory of one car) and its legal in its state of registration :-) just to frak with them (I do not believe its lawful to make the RECEPTION of unencrypted EMF unlawful)

Richard. I think you just speed a lot :-) hehe seriously around here no one bothers me except other drivers

last night I was passed ON THE SHOULDER TWICE. I was like what the hell?? am I going slow or something? nope checked 55 in a 50mph zone so I was actually speeding :-)

I swerved toward the second one scared the living crap out of him :-) hehe and I gave him my horn toot at every light to remind him that he got "no where" fast :-) I have a unique horn (ooga horn) so when someone does something stupid like this I toot the horn. now they know my car has that horn.

SO everytime we come to a light I am usually RIGHT behind them and give the horn a short toot. now they know yup I am still their. you got NO WHERE for all your effort. :-) drives em nuts :-)

cops don't even give me a second look most of the time.

I usually do 40mph in the 50mph zone at night when there are no cars and never got even a second look from police.

Do the same thing in my Club Wagon and I get pulled over inside of 10 minutes. Why you driving so slow sir? One time I had dash panels off. WHILE HOLDING MY LICENSE AND REGISTRATION he asks me why is the dash apart, is this your van.

I looked at him and straight up said "I am not even going to honor such a stupid question with an answer" as I pointed to the documents he held in his hands. He was NOT a happy camper. but I was squeaky clean so there was nothing he could do :-)

strange stuff :-)

That sounds crazy, how does the average cop on the street know you have a 3 cyl car?

because most GEO's have tiny engines :-) he his imagination.

My dad gets pulled over all the time no matter what he drives. he has this tendency to "meander" around his lane a lot. nothing wrong he is a very experienced driver he for whatever reason meanders a lot so he gets pulled over a lot because they think he might be DUI. (he does not drink)

its not the car. its richard. I am not saying richard is doing anything wrong. in fact he probable is NOT doing anything wrong but "richard" is doing something that "triggers" the food bell for the police for some reason.

as illegal and immoral as it is police PROFILE. I am not talking racial profiling there are "warning" signs they learn and or are trained to look out for that "indicate" such and such type or person or activity.

SOME people just naturally exhibit these traits and create false positives to police training. Richard is likely one of these kinds of people.

as for mouthing off to police. Police are not your friend. They are NOT their to protect you. They are their to stroke their ego and to collect revenue.

how do I know this? because a GOOD COP is not a cop your going to encounter often unless your a criminal. Duh :-)

While I won't mouth off right off the bat to a cop I also do not hold back. I give them ZERO special treatment. I treat them like any other person. if they are civil and polite to me I am civil and polite to them but I am also stern and the first question I ask is. Your reason for pulling me over sir? though usually they TELL you flat out why they pulled you over so I don't need to ask it.

if they are "rude" to me I am "rude" back in spades and they get ZERO cooperation from me above what the minimum the law requires and that it is.

BTW around here at least (PA and NJ) I immediately relax when I notice its a trooper. They are usually VERY polite professional don't waste your time or bullshit you.

Most of the time they legitimately see something to trigger a stop and half the time I encounter state troopers they don't even ask for my paperwork. For example I was on the side of the road once using the phone. Statie turned around when he came to the window asked if I was ok. I said yes sir just using the phone the headset battery is dead.

He said ok no problem have a good night and left. did not even ask for my paperwork.

thats a GOOD cop.

around here its the LOCAL cops you have to worry about. they are the ones revenue hunting.

Complete and utter :shit
Statements like that tell a lot about a person.

You sure do a lot of generalizing in just about every post.
99% of cops are just like you and me.
Actually, I hope they are not too much like you. I would have to hear him talk for twenty minutes as to why he pulled me over.
Then he would use my very words against me.

I always feel there's less chance of being pulled over in the Geo than in my truck. It might have something to do with me averaging 75 in the truck and 60 in the Geo! :banghead I had the Geo up to 80 once and got the feeling that a piston was gonna be coming through the hood at any moment! :O
