Pre paid cell phones; good/bad

alright, well I will soon be kicked off my moms plan so I've gotta get my own. This will be my first cell phone plan and I've been looking at pre-paid cell phones. I like the idea of not having a 2 yr contract. I would really like to keep my verizon, but on the individual 2 yr plan and even prepaid, it is a lot more expensive then some of the pre-paid phones.
Anyone have luck with them? So far the I have noticed that finding one with good coverage is hard, they have hidden fees, and sometimes their customer service isn't the greatest.
But overall not having that 2 yr contract, as of right now, is a big plus.

Anyone know of any good deals? who to look at and who not to look at?
I've been looking at cricket. They have a plan for $35 a month. I need unlimited texting and probably only need around 200 minutes a month (maybe 100).

I got a TracFone with double minutes for life. As long as you are not a teenager, the phone is cheap. I get a $30.00 card every 2 months.

yea I looked into that, but the texting would kill me. I really would like to cut down on the texting though. I will look into that. It would be so nice paying that. Honestly I would like to keep verizon but too expensive.

Break up with your significant other. My texting drops by at least 75% when I do that.

I have Virgin Mobile. 25 dollars a month 300 minutes unlimited text and internet. I have the Rumor Touch for a phone. Not the best set up but it works ok. I dont think Virgin Mobile has coverage everywhere. My people send a lot of pictures back and forth so it works for me. :banana :banana :banana

I had a cricket phone several years ago. Have no phone now but a land line. I got mad at my wife one day and tried to throw my cricket phone as hard as I could at a wooden fence about 20 yards away one day. You would be surprised at how hard it was to throw that perticular phone. Caught too much air. When it got to the fence it was a dud. Picked it up and worked fine for a couple more years.

yea I've had a few LG phones that were tanks. I use to punt my LG and used it as a hockey puck, by this time it was on its last leg, but still worked.

I'm going to try and stay simple. I don't care about the newest, greatest, phone out. I just want it cheap and simple.

My phone has come in pretty handy a couple of times. Once not long ago when I was working my daughters house when she was in Texas. I could just snap a pic, send send it too her to see if that is what she wanted. My son was replacing his timing and belt and he would send me a picture every so often if he had a question. Besides I can bother the hell out of you guys all the time. Geo Metro Forum 24/7 :smackface You know, I need to get a hobby or something :smackface :smackface :smackface
