There are 2 major types of kidney stones, those made from calcium and those made from uric acid crystals. The doctor should get you a little screen so you can catch them in mid-flight as they make their way down splash-mountain. After you catch the little bugger, give it to the doc for analysis. If you find out that they are from uric acid crystals, you may want to start a baking soda regimen. Uric acid is real weak and the crystals can be dissolved by altering your body's Ph. As always, before doing anything like this, check with your doc. I'm doing it right now to treat my G.A. |

BB, I have the VA to cover my medical bills. City, I am using a bottle and screen to try and catch any stones. I got a little one but it was too small to get out of the screen. |

Yeah, I need to get to the VA some day. My doctor gave me a little screen, some thing like a funnel. I think I still have it. I just wasn't THAT curious as to what it was. It was the one visit to the doctor I have made in 11 years of living here. The cat. scan was a waste. All I wanted to know was why and give me some pain killers. This hospital is bad. |

Like said before Citric acids (orange, grapefruit, lemonaid, lime juices.) help with preventing kidney stones.

Mine hurt so damn bad I felt like framing the effer when I gave birth to it. Drugs didn't work on me either, just knocked me out. They gave me fentanyl in the ER and that was the grooviest stuff I could ever imagine taking. I felt that stuff crawl up every vein in my body. I literally felt it go up my neck and into my brain. It took less than 2 minutes for that stuff to make my whole body feel like it was on cloud nine. I mean every square inch of me was stoned. Everything that is except the tiny part of my body that had a 3mm piece of gravel lodged in it. That part still hurt like hell, but it didn't matter because I was unconscious 30 seconds later. They sent me home with Vicodin and said 'have fun!' They might as well have given me skittles because they would have had the same effect; nothing. I writhed around for 3 days until that thing hit my bladder. Plenty of room to bounce around in there. I thought I had passed it until it hit the piss pipe. Three more days of misery until I heard that beautiful 'tink' on the side of the porcelain. Since then I have become aquaman. LOTS OF WATER! No more coffee, caffeine, or anything unnatural. Nothing is worth that kind of pain. I stay away from sugar substitutes also. You gots to get 20 minutes of cardio exercise every day too. Increased blood flow from a healthy heart combats silly bullshit like kidney stones, among other things. My heart goes out to you my friend. Stay strong. Drink beer, it makes you piss and kills the pain a tiny bit. P.S. This is no B.S.---Take really good care of your teeth too. My doctor told me that plaque on your teeth translates to plaque in you arteries (don't ask me how that works) which increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney stones Edited by Spock, Jan 23 2011, 11:26 PM.

Is there a correlation between owning a Geo Metro and having a kidney stone? Seems like there is... |

I know I've passed the previous stones, but I have yet to catch one. I thing my body likes to screw with me to put me into a lot of pain and then break the kidney stone up. The one my dad had landed him in the hospital for a week. |

Because I know the internet detectives are scouring the web for personal and medical info they can use against the masses, the following is merely a dream I had last night and has nothing to do with the actual truth or reality: I know as soon as I click "REPLY", I will be taken down with another kidney stone but here goes... I have had several kidney stones since the first one around 23 years old. I know different folks have different reasons for getting them but for me, I realized most of mine if not all, came in the colder winter months. Trying to examine what was causing them and find a way to stop this, I felt like the stones may be forming as a result of dehydration during the summer months. I tend to have an excellent perspiration/respiration system probably due to an abundant supply of insulation. I began to take better care of myself in the hot months as I worked and sweated making sure to stop and replace the liquids regularly. I used to go like a mad man until I was finished as though I was in a competition with an invisible someone. One summer night in Baltimore, my lights went out for a brief few seconds due to heat exhaustion and I found myself getting up off the pavement weak as Superman holding Kryptonite. All because I didn't have enough sense to stop and take time to drink water. Since then, I have kept the stones at bay by drinking lots of water. Haven't changed any other habits...still drink coffee, milk (calcium), etc. Keep yourself hydrated year round and just maybe it'll help slow down the formation of the stones. P.S. It should also be noted that forcing a golf ball through a garden hose is difficult but should the garden hose be taken out of the picture and replaced with a fire hose-sized exit, then this makes the passage of said golf ball much easier. Just sayin...
