Merging the Honda CRX HF with a Geo Metro xFi

What would you take from each and how would you put it together?

CRX HF with the Geo metro engine?

or Geo Metro with a CRX HF engine?

Is the CRX more rust resistant?

Just my musings on a snowy day as the office kicks us out due to the weather.

I would stick with the CRX HF. Much better looking car and a really good engine.
I looked for several months for the CRX HF, still looking in fact, could not find one at a reasonable price. Geos were everywhere though. So I got one, then another and just got my third today.

Yea, I know. You can get 3 or 4 geos for the price of a good CRX HF. Those HFs are not easy to find. Neither are xFis for that matter, but you're right, the Geos are more common.

Unfortunately, these young kids have swapped out the nice original Honda engines and put gas guzzlers (respectively) in them.

I see there's some guy who rebuilds HFs in Michigan when he can find them and sells them on eBay with guarantees. Those seem to be going for around $5K.

He offers a guarantee on the FE when you pick it up. He'll take you on a 200 mile drive and for every mile over 50 mpg, he'll charge you an additional $250! I guess I would just take his word!

That's a great way to make a profit.

The CRX HF is an all around better car than the Metro in terms of quality and chassis design. That being said, I don't like that the CRX is a 2 seater and has limited interior space. In that vein then I would go for a Civic VX over a CRX HF. It's a 4 seat hatchback with a lean burn engine under the hood.

Swapping a Metro drivetrain into a CRX would be pointless. However, swapping it into an original Insight might show some promise if you can find a dead Insight for cheap. Even that would be hard to do in a cost-effective way as compared to fixing the hybrid stuff. After all, the Insight I is the most fuel efficient vehicle ever made for US consumption and as such is hard to beat in stock form. So... how would I beat it with a G10? Well, I would use even lower gearing than the XFI and mod the aerodynamics to make it even slipperier than stock to try and beat the 67 mpg highway they were rated at when new.

I would kill for a nice looking CRX HF. I've been looking for two years and have yet to find one with a reasonable price, in reasonable shape within 250 miles of my house.

YEA an hf or civic vx would kick ass. Other than geo having a 4 door and the crx not having much room, I think they are all around better cars
