Which Factory Service Manual To Go With?

Some of you rather use Chilton / Haynes manuals as toilet paper. So I looked around for FSM for my 96 Geo Metro.

1) What are they supposed to look like? eBay came up with two different-looking manuals.

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=factory+service+manual+geo+metro+96&_sacat=0&_odkw=factory+service+manual+geo+metro&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

2) Since 1995+ models are similar, should I care which specific year FSM I should get? In other words, since I have a 96 Geo Metro, can I get a 97 FSM and be okay?

Thanks.

Another one: http://www.carboagez.com/servlet/the-3836/1996-Chevrolet-Chevy-Geo/Detail
Another good find: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-chevrolet-metro-shop-service-manual-set-of-2_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6760QQitemZ270660169353

Seems cheap. Most of you were saying that it would be at least $60.

looks like the real deal, make sure you get the one that has two manuals, all of it isn't in one. the grey one says preliminary on it also i think it says 2 of 2

Got a 2 book set for my 99 off Ebay a few months back, Less than $25 with shipping. Great deal.

Just want back & checked. $19.25 with shipping. $12.50 for books. Rest was shipping. Not too bad huh?

No, it isn't too bad at all. So these /are/ the real deal.

But... could I get a 97, 98, 99 FSM and it would still be accurate?

these are my 98 FSM I got off ebay a year or 2 ago for about $45

there were 3 books in the set, i have the third around somewhere, in the back of both of there is an index of where everything is and the smaller book is "chapters 2-5" the bigger one is 5-9 or something.... good reading, but a little dry and simplified

I don't really know how much the years interchange, I personally would buy the right year for your car

I suggest waiting to find the proper year. There are some minor variations between years some times and you might as well get the right one. I have 2 metros: a 91 and a 92. I only have the 92 manual and while it helps on the 91, there are enough differences between the two that I am thinking of getting the 91 manual as well.

I have the two (2) volume FSM with the green cover for the Wife's '96. That is what you want. Index is much better.

The Chilton is nice but the index is :shit . Chilton has fewer pages but far less detail because it covers every Metro ever made. I suppose it's easier to find stuff in it because I had Chilton for two years before the FSM.

Your link: ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-chevrolet-metro-shop-service-manual-set-of-2 is a great price for as they say "a set of 2" and "Average overall wear. Covers may have some creasing, soiling and small tears. Pages are complete, intact and in good, readable condition. " and they have 99.8% feedback.

Please update after it arrives. :deal ;)

You do have an OBDII code reader, because the repair procedures are intense. The P0420 explanation/diagnosis, 2 pages long.

I count 298 pages in my Chilton and in Book 1 of the FSM it has 84 pages on the SIR "airbags", 62 pages on the 1.0 engine mechanical, 60 on the 1.3 mechanical, and 191 on Anti-lock brakes. I need to install the plastic page 'tabs' I bought (for quick chapter ID), some day. :smackface

It's OK to start holding your breath or :drool
