I have noticed some metro owners putting nice wheels on their cars. I know from looking them up online $300 - $500 isn't unusual to lay down for some nice new rims. My question is this; are any of you using locking lugnuts on the stock 10mmx12.5 studs or are you putting larger studs on so you can find locking lugnuts. BTW no I am not looking to jack me some new rims!!! :whistle

well if they are 13" rims, I don't think too many people would be interested in stealing them.....
but if you do pay a lot for rims, then why not spend a few more dollars for locking lug nuts?

Locking lug nuts are a waste. If someone really wants your wheels they will get them. Now that they are so common, you can easily get keys for them. Also I work in a shop and I can't tell you how much I hate looking for peoples keys, or when people lose them.

Not Really All That Smart

If you spend $500 on wheels, they probably come with their own locking lug nuts. At least they better. $500 is more than alot of people on this site paid for their entire car.

And just to verify what UndGsx-R said, I got some lug nuts from Autozone a couple weeks ago because my standard lug nuts weren't doing a very good job of holding the Accent rims on. All they had were the "locking" nuts and of course the set came with a "key". Well, turns out that the "key" that came with my "locking" lug nuts is exactly the same key that came with the lug nuts I had on my 2002 Kia Rio, 5 years ago... So what's the point of locking nuts if they are all exactly the same? I know you can buy funky ones, but still.

If I want your rims, it wouldn't take much work to get a key to fit and pull those bad boys off. If you have the cojones to walk up and steal someone's rims in the first place, you probably have the know-how to wait a couple days to find a key that fits.

I went to the pull-a-part Sunday in Augusta. Found a little Nissan with a nice set of 15" 5 spoke wheels but the rims had locks and there was no key to be found in the car. I noticed that others had been trying to get the locks off with pliers and such. After some testing I took a cheap 16mm socket and tapped it a few times and it slipped right on. After removing the wheels I thought if a dummy like me could figure this out then really how much good are the locks.
