So, it's been way too long since ive last logged in...SORRY!

UPDATE - drove 12hrs round trip to York, PA to pick up an XFI from.....yep, you guessed it, antennaejim. It was an awesome trip and antennaejim was very hospitable. The following weekend (last wkend i think) I installed her and she's been shifting smooth ever since.

I know, I know....some of you are thinking "isn't that what Johnny said like 8 months ago?" And yes, you're exactly right; a few people suggested that I buy a spare and rebuild mine. Well, what can I say, I'm hard-headed;)

I've had a great time learning about my car and how it operates. I have put my stock tranny on the shelf and plan to crack it once again in the spring (wish me luck).

Until then, I'll be troubleshooting my cruise control (audiovox CCS 100), which means I have to build a few electronics b4 I can start.

Thanks again to everyone for their helpful insight and well received encouragement.

Your friend, cryboytheman, signing-off of this project (unless she comes back to bite me lol) :rocker

P.S. I'll upload a few more pix here in a couple days.

Oh but WAIT, Houston, we had a problem.......

Wife and I were on our way home from picking up some goodies from Radio Shack when....Wait for it.....my newly installed XFI got STUCK in 3rd gear :popcorn

It was hung up for about a mile and a half (5 to 7 mins.). So, here's what happened, step by step:

1. Pulled out of the parking lot
2. Stopped at the light
3. Made a left turn (shifting from 1st to 2nd)
4. Shifted to 3rd and when I went for 4th it would not pull out of 3rd
5. Stuck
6. Drove two blocks and pulled over
7. Waited for about 2 mins
8. Started the car and drove off in 3rd
9. Here's where we drove for about a mile and a half
10. Pulled the shifter and she came out just like normal

To add to the story, about two nights ago I was driving 35 mph when I drove over a really bad pothole. About 5 miles after having hit the pothole I was parking. As I was reversing into the parking spot the car started to shake as if the clutch wasn't fully engaged. I ended up putting it back into 1st. and driving into another parking spot (totally avoiding the use of reverse).

Any :hmm

Anchorage 92 XFi

huh? on another transmission?
Put the car up on jackstands...have your wife sit in the driver's seat and go through shifting, while you check out everything below.
And....your time on the old transmission is all good experience :thumb

Man... You can't catch a break! Glad you got an XFi tranny though. The ratio is nice. Not sure what's going on with it, but hopefully it's just some bad bushings? No grinding right? Once you get some time, start a thread on that cruise control. That sucks, hopefully we can figure that out. Mine is working great :) Although, my MPGuino took a crap...

Wow. :smackface The shaking is the clutch. Not sure what is doing. But its not doing what its supposed to be doing. The stuck in 3rd can be as simple as linkage, or welded to the main shaft. But it would not have come back out if that is what happened. Has that pesky mixing head worked its way loose under the retangle shaped cover maybe? This is a new one for this model trans. Possilby the phillips head screws that hold the rear bearing retainer under 5th loose? That would let the shafts move. Must think on this one

The shaking has gone away for now....not sure why. I've taken a couple of pix of the linkage as well as a video with the linkage in action. It seems like the linkage could have gotten caught on the catalytic converter.

How to get her up and in the car when you're doing an install by yourself:

first take a pic and make sure you smile;)

2x4 and seatbelt strap did the trick for me

Rest her on something that's just high enough so that you only have to lift the tranny an inch or so to get her to mount to the engine.

And there you have it :rocker

That's what I did the first time around and it took me FOREVER to get her to line up (like +2hrs).

This time around I had the tranny in position in less than 10mins :rocker
