Fun fact: Cyl three is the last to get coolant. I wonder if that slight heat increase contributes the the frequency of it's burnt exhaust valve . . .

Total seal piston rings part number X8024 fits our application. Three rings with the second ring being gapless.
I emailed their tech and he said the gapless ring is slightly lower tension then a stock ring.

I emailed them asking about price. Standard premium rings from rock auto are ~$50 IIRC.

EDIT: They got back to me, $122.56 w/o an acct. I asked them how one would get an account.

Here is the listing from summit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TSR-X8024-20/ where it's $121
And from some other random site for $103: http://sdparts.com/details/total-seal-piston-rings/totx8024-20

Oh, good, the block is back from the shop. No more scratchy bores.

Let's clean it off and mask it off . . .

Posted Image

I see a red block . . .

Posted Image

. . . I want to paint it black . . .

Posted Image

. . . no colors anymore . . .

PvP: Piston vs piston. Stocker is on the right and the flat top is a later model 4 cyl piston.

Posted Image

Total seal piston rings . . . these are the 2nd ring gapless style rings.

Posted Image

See the middle ring? It's actually two rings, a carrier and a rail . . . gapless.

Posted Image

I got the crank\pistons\mains into the block and next I have to figure out the o rings on the oil pump . . . It's bedtime for me now . . . hope you enjoy the pictures.

Are you going to machine those? (Have we decided if you have to or not?)

I'm going to try running them as-is to see what problems would arise and if they could be fixed with a little tuning. If it's too much of an issue it's not that big a deal to pop them out and ship them to 3tech.

you should just get the rotating assembly balanced, trust me, it makes one hell of a difference, and is worth it.

Looking great! :thumb Like the Stones reference too. B-) With the G13 pistons, is your G10 now an interference engine? :news

tofu,

add this to your fun fact. cylinder #2 shares it's water jacket with cylinders #1 and #3 which cheats it on cooling. i think that has something to do with the crumbling ring lands in the #2 hole on the turbo3 engines.

getting into the operation of the megasquirt in sequential mode, the new ms2extra 3.1.1 firmware adds a third injection table, variable fuel trim, which allows you to add fuel in a small percentage to an individual injector. that lets you control the fire deck temps in each cylinder by running a tad bit richer.

i have always wondered if the egr circuit had something to do with the #3 exhaust valve burning. the port is pulled off the exhaust runner from the #3 hole and the passage runs through the head on the #3 end. my 91 verts never had the egr and i've had little trouble with them burning the #3 exhaust valve.

the black looks good on the block. ;)

Thanks! 3tech says it would not be interference.

I'm going to have a thermocouple in each exhaust port - so that third injection table will certainly come in handy :)

Oh, I totally would have, you see, I just didn't have any laying around ;)

Seriously though, bright colors (neon green, bright red, metallic blue, etc) look great as accents on a gloss black object.
