how do you know? rated max speed is 87mph I figured the only reason I got faster was I had taller tires.

On your style commute your not very likely to break 50mpg on E10 easily and stock. even EPA city is longer and smoother than your commute.

You should also look into a coolant heater to get your car up to temp faster.
True, but I'm not always doing the same commute, sometimes I'm on the highway.

Coolant heater sounds good, it's in the plans, low on the list though.

Move it up to the top of or near the top of your list then. its CHEAP extremely EASY to install (20 minutes) and should net you immediate results in both fuel economy AND engine lifespan (IE easier on your engine)

its an under $40 upgrade and especially useful for your typical short commute.

when on the highway how do you drive?

I was thinking of doing an oil heater, or just running a flexible heating element through the block or somesuch.
I'm still toying with ideas for getting rid of the cooling system (using oil to cool the engine), but that is less likely.

Water carries heat MUCH better than oil, you may have overheating issues if you change to oil cooling... Project is looking good so far. Are you planning on a MPGuino or such in the project? I've jumped my city MPG trip average to 50+MPG thanks to the ability to get instant feedback on driving techniques.

I've got an MPGuino :)
I am aware of oil's inability to cool well, however our vehicles don't exactly need a lot of cooling . . .

My new T3 manifold has arrived!

Lets strip it down . . .

And introduce it to . . . THE DIP (DONT get this stuff on your hands)

Now it's time to show the fuel rail a little love so it wont punish the injectors with derbies . . . (.45 if anyone is wondering)

Some silver paint . . .

Allright, that's it for the night!

Bonus information: Did you know the T3, unlike the Sprint, has NO provision for an EGR whatsoever?

Also, can anyone tell me what those little brass tubes right next to the intake valves are? (I'd post a pic but the head is in the shop)
Some sort of air injection? Where do they get their air from? I guess I'll find out when I take mine apart if no one knows.

I should see if I should add some sort of EGR, or give it up entirely and make some sort of adjustable, warm air / cold air intake.

The little brass tubes go through to the intake runner, the idea with them is to induce swirl to the air going into the intake valve, 3tech has noted (on teamswift) they are an impediment to air flow into the intake and usually removes them on his head work.

Peak flow doesn't matter to me - I'm wondering why the OEM put them there . . .
If it helps with MPG, then by all means they stay. If not, then they shall be removed.

Perhaps they will help up until the insight injectors are installed.

Any idea where their air supply is from?

I'm pretty sure its the little holes in the head below the big intake runner holes.

Obviously, but I don't know what supplies those :)

IIRC, its just T's into the intake runner somewhere along its length
